Mayor Michael B. Coleman was preparing remarks on the city’s acquisition of the South Side Settlement House when the tremor hit.

“All of a sudden my chair was shaking. My water bottle was shaking,” he said.

1. I find it very interesting how widespread the shaking was felt.

It is odd enough when it happens in an area that expects it, must've been quite odd in the places where quakes are uncommon

I recognized it for an earthquake even though I had never felt an earthquake before.
