When will the jobs comeback ?
Iam a 54 year old father of two young teenagers ,married 17 years (probably wont make it to 18 years) After workig for a company for over 17 years they closed down due to lack of work. No 401K or much of any benifits exceprt the pay was decent about $20 per hour . Now every job I apply for offers only $10 per hour (thats was considered decent in the seventies)It appears that they are teraing down the working middle class in this country. My father raised three children, purchased a homeand took nice vacations every year all on $25,000.00 a year . Now,at least where I live 25K will be just enough to get by on ! Whats happening to my country, we need a FDR a "New Deal" We need JOBS NOW !!

5. Unknown
Get a skill (welding, etc). That usually helps. (Not that you don't have a skill but I don't know what it is. Skip small engine repair.)

6. A neighbor complains constantly that his kids can only find $10 per hour/no benefits shit jobs
He blames this all on President Obama.

He has lived in this subdivision for over 20 year and never bought anything but imported cars as his kids were growing up. He has two newer ones in his driveway right now. There are two union auto plants within driving distance of our homes. I retired from one of them.

Yet this idiot thinks it is President Obama's fault that all the decent paying jobs with good benefits have moved overseas. This guy is too fucking stupid to realize that it was those union autoworkers that he boycotted who used to set the pattern for everyones wages and benefits.

Amazing, isn't it?

12. Step 3: Why does it seem like my pay and benefits are patterned after non-union autoworkers now?
Because they are.

7. I have little hope of them coming back
The companies that didn't close, but laid off 1/2 of the employees, are finding that the remaining employees are just working harder (mostly to not get laid off). The employers have no intention of hiring additional staff, just working the current ones to death.

8. Corporations have never been a friend of yours.
You were overhead, no matter what you did.

The jobs are never coming back and Obama, or any other person, won't do a damn thing about it.

Reality sucks.

9. If and when we ever start manufacturing things again. Don't see that happening though,
we're simply a consumer nation now. The only jobs will come from the service sector...."may I take your order please?"

14. When the price of oil rises so high that consumer goods cannot be shipped in from Asia at a profit.
Edited on Wed Aug-24-11 10:17 AM by kenny blankenship
Because it's for certain now that the Democratic Party will never stand up to the living wage job killing, slave labor preferring machinations of capital. We will have to wait until either our country's wages fall to that of Burma, or Chad, or whichever the lowest cost producer in the world may be in the future, or else until oil depletion renders the transoceanic shipment of plastic gewgaws unprofitable. By then the appearance of the "cure" will cause symptoms as bad or worse than the disease of "free" trade. Of course, in that event, the Democrats will probably just vote to subsidize fuel oil for Maersk and COSCO because it will be the bipartisan response. Or else they'll write tax incentives for those shipping operators to power their fleet with onboard nuclear reactors.

Or maybe we can pull up some paving stones and show the weasels we're not going to take it anymore.

15. Never, if the plutocrats have their way
and they own the Presidency, the SCOTUS and the majority of Congress. So they will get their way.
