Siskiyou County man convicted of kidnapping and trying to kill 3-year-old
A 25-year-old Siskiyou County man has been convicted of attempted murder, kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 3-year-old Yreka girl after he abducted from her West Miner Street home in 2009 and then buried her alive.

A jury found Kody Kaplon guilty on Monday morning after beginning deliberations Friday afternoon. He's due to be sentenced Oct. 13.

Siskiyou County District Attorney J. Kirk Andrus said today that Kaplon is facing a maximum 91 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced next month.

1. This is a horrid story.
It is great that the little girl survived and testified.

The girl, who later was found wearing only a T-shirt and shivering under a bush near Kaplon’s car in a rural area northwest of Yreka, told investigators that he took most of her clothes, choked her and then buried her, but that she was able to dig herself out.

Miraculous that she survived.
