1. If it makes a direct land fall in NYC it will be the first
since 1938... just misses, well a little more recent.

Serious note, some of the damage from this quake has weakened structures that would have laughed Irene otherwise.

3. Yes that should be cause for concern
but it depends on Irene's strength - word is North Carolina on Saturday but they were also wrong about Florida.

2. Mayor Bloomy said he's more concerned about Irene
..than the earthquake. East coast prepares as it watches the various tracking predictions.

4. Well Irene now has a definitive eye
for the first time - she's strengthening again in that wide open ocean.
Somewhere on the mainland is going to get a serious hit.

9. I agree - I wouldn't underestimate her. Here in TX we've actually
got a shot at rain today. It's getting to be our time to watch for the storms as well. The hurricanes like to hit us in early Sept. I've already got my small waterproof bin with photos/papers ready to go. Our duffle bags go in the topper ...

8. I'm not too happy with the projected path.
As of right now it appears it will roll right over me. Near the coast will have to deal with the surge but inland the vast quantities of rain from this month have softened the ground and it may cause more trees to blow down.

with Ike we stayed in a hotel in North Texas for a week because our kids are young (dog too...). We were fortunate to be in a newer area and things were back on-line in a week. Some of our area had to wait 2-3 weeks for their electricity to return.

12. Thanks.
I have plenty of water and food and propane for cooking. I'll just be miserable without power, but oh well.
