Gaddafi's regime is over."
Not able to confirm Gaddafi's location, reports suggest he's still inside Libya.
If Gaddafi is captured alive, their intent is to bring him to justice through a legal process. Goal is for a transition to get underway swiftly, that is just, that supports the Libyan people in their desire for democracy, but it's up to the Libyan people.
Wolf: US prefer Gaddafi tried inside Libya or brought to the ICC? Rice: Up to Libyans.
Observation: It seems as though we seem to know a little more than she about what's going on inside the compound, but we're watching it live on TV and she's in Rome and out on a balcony giving an interview. :)
Wolf: Credibility of the transitional group questioned? RE: having Gaddafi's son in custody but finding out he wasn't. Rice: Lots of miscommunication, this doesn't shade their credibility.
Wolf: Chem weapons? Rice: Keeping an eye out.
Wolf: What about the journalists being held? Rice: We're concerned (doesn't sound as though we can do much at this point) We'll do what we can.
Wolf: Are you saying if the NATO security council had not acted, Gaddafi would have gone into the towns and killed people? Rice: Yes
Wolf: US Government un-freeze the $35 bill Libyan assets in the US? Rice: We're working on that, I'm involved, getting close to being able to release assets.
Wolf: When? Rice: Hope within days?
Wolf: Someone responsible you can hand it over to? Rice: Yes
Prez in Damascas watching -- what message should he take? Rice: Clear message you can not use force against your own people and expect them to take it lying down.
