Glenn Beck's secret revealed!
Edited on Tue Jan-11-11 08:53 PM by tom_paine

For the first time in a very long time, I have cable TV again. Don't ask me why I broke down and got it, ending a years-long personal boycott of Corporate Media Infoganda. For years and years I refused, now finally I have it again.

Since I do, I now scan Cable TV News to see just how bad it has gotten with my own eyes. DU and youtube are great and all, but nothing beats seeing with one's own eyes. In short, it's far worse even than it ever was out there in Corporate Infogandaland.

As with most people, I have watched even more Cable TV Nonsense due to this tragedy, and even for the first time in years also have sampled for as long as I can stomach it...yes...Fox.

Wow. What a crazy 21st Century Kinder and Gentler Nazi Fest it is over there! Maybe the tragedy will force it to tone down but DON'T YOU BANK ON IT.

So I'm watching the opening of Beck last night and his pious denunciations of violence (no mention of strangling Michael Moore, eh?) using MLK.

I'm steaming at the shameless hypocrisy, and sitting there thinking that's exactly what he wants. Standard Bushiganda or Naziganda strategy. Piss off your opponent to put them off their game. And they are right, too. It works. Anger fuels a chemical reaction that drops IQ 20 points, studies have revealed. It's a standard sports strategy, but as we have seen from Bill Parcells' "working the ref" (and owning him through Corporate HQ) as it translates to their RW Propaganda and Viral Media Strategy, sports strategies can be very effective, especially when combined with trillions of dollars and all the power of the Military-Intelligence Complex.

But WAIT. There's something else going on here in plain sight. It was nagging at me. Something about Beck's intonations and body language, deviating from his usual "Evil Mr. Rogers" persona. It was off just a bit, and so subtle I don't think my conscious mind picked up on it at first.

But it nagged at me. Then, just now, it came to me in a flash.

Glenn Beck quotes Martin Luther King, Jr. to his audience when he wants them to know not to take what he says seriously. (but pretend like Glenn that they do)

Glenn Beck uses MLK as a dog-whistle to both the conscious (of the meaner, racist half of his audience) and the subconscious (of the nicer, more clueless half of his audience - yes they exist at least until they start moving up the rungs of the RWs Ladder of Hate) of his audience.

Every winger and partaker of RW propaganda knows MLK was a socialist and a communist and all that. Most of them despise him at some level, especially the Confderate portion of his audience, which I am sure is a significant percentage.

I mean, it doesn't make sense from a marketing perspective. Why talk about MLK to a demographic that is going to be turned off by the subject? Because it's the secret little Nazi game. It's as if Josef Goebbels had to make pious declarations that he would never harm a single hair on a Jew's head, that he denounces violence and here is a quote about nonviolence from the great Zionist Leader Theodore Herzl.

Wow. What can I say but...wow. Now THAT is some evil genius right there!

Maybe I am out of touch and somebody else has figured it out before, but I have never seen this anywhere before. What does everyone think?

Am I on to something here?

3. Hell, I don't know
I don't believe I could stomach watching that sorry piece of dog shit long enough to tell you whether or not you've figured him out.

And I'm not real good at analysis. I can't even figure out why our cat takes a dump on the floor right next to his litter box about once a week.

4. It's a dirty job, but I guess someone's gotta do it
You're made of stronger stuff than me, because I can't watch a single minute of that smarmy prick. Your analysis seems plausible, however, as I know he attempted to make a mockery of MLK's legacy during the gathering of assholes in DC on the anniversary of his famous speech.

5. Dog whistling = Plausible deniability, in this case, through secessionists, in service to our transn
ational economically royal masters, to create domestic pressure that helps to drive down the price of Labor in order to save their American partners in world Dominion.

6. You are definitely on to something.
Most right wingers hate MLK with a passion. His little stories about King are a kind of inside joke between him and his racist audience. That rally he promoted on the anniversary of the "I have a dream" speech was nothing but a mockery. They might as well have had a Klan rally at the site of King's grave. Beck is a vile, perverse, crude imitation of a human being.

8. actually, the Nazis made promises to the Red Cross they weren't harming Jews
they even had a fake concentration camp -- well, "fake" in what seemed to be going on -- Theresienstadt, in order to "pass inspection" for the Red Cross.

9. I'm sure you're right. Something about bypassing the analytical and going for the emotional
If you trigger the emotional response (in this case hate) you can bypass normal personal evaluation and individual judgement.

Or something like that, saw it on Leverage, talking about cons and neuro-linguistic programming, IIRC. Basics of propaganda, see Bernays.

12. Isn't it, though? It's nice to know that the millions of hours of psychology research at
universities, corporations, media, and everywhere else it's performed/focus-grouped/neuromarketed hans't gone to waste.

The RW and Aristocracy have truly created a propaganda media edifice in montsrosity unparalleled in human history. The science of human mentals enslavement have never been operating at a higher acapcity, or with a more vicious, ruthless sociopathic group of henchmen.

People have no idea how lucky we all are to be living in this nation at this time. In ANY other nation at any other time in history a country bursting at the seams with cruel insanity and completely detatched from reality, there would be Liberal Relocation Camps or some other bloody brutal barbaric atrocities against Outgroups.

But here, we have the entire RW Lie Machine dog-whistling to their crazies to tone it down a notch, at least for a little while, and while this is a terrible tragedy it is still a relatiely isolated tragedy. Even the whole list of months of recent RW Domestic Terror Attacks doesn't amount to a five-day list of atrocities in most nations, especially deeply unequal totalitarian nations like the USA is now transitioning into.

So for now...enjoy!

11. Nascent Nazis
May as well call it what it is. They will hate truth-tellers. They hate the taste of their own medicine. They hate it when we learn from history and wont shut up about it.

But, they will HATE anyway. And who gives a shit what they think? History is repeating, slowly - but repeating.

Glenn has never denied it.

someone to work this through.

I think you are onto something.

Plus someone from another profession. How about Dick Gregory and Thom Hartman?

Delve and dig. This is one way to counter this.

Something tells me that Beck is working with or for some kind of entity for double or quadruple purposes - to see what it takes to cause a normal person to revolt and also to see the degree of hate before someone snaps. I don't think there is any limit to the evil that is manipulating bigots.

Bigots are riding high - things are finally going well for them with all the Repub and Tea Party leaders - who are bringing them down a path where sensitivities, common sense, and responsibility are cleansed right out of them.

16. Just one example of widespread technique in media, marketing, everyday discourse
We all understand at some level that how new information will be perceived by others depends in part on what they had been thinking about immediately prior. We want them in the "right frame of mind" before we talk about an emotional issue or make an unusual request of them.

Even a positive statement about MLK would "activate/strenthen/reinforce" other things associated with him, positive or negative (likely that negative ones are affected more and in turn have a greater impact on the listener). Exploiting this tendency is commonplace, in advertising, politics, personal relationships, and in works of art and literature.

If really clever, one can make several seemingly unrelated positive statements involving people, events, or issues which are likely to trigger very similar negative memories that together will then become strongly associated with things the listeners hears, sees, and remembers immediately thereafter.

At some level, we all do this routinely in our daily lives. Those whose words resonate with whole societies are able to determine the products we buy, the politicians we elect, the wars we fight.

17. nice work tom_paine

they pay the man the big bucks for a reason.

You have to be able to compartmentalize, to lie with a straight face, to take a lot of flak to be in his shoes. You have to set aside your conscience and think only of the money if it gets to you.

He isn't there because of his looks, his intellect or his style. He's there because he can cry on cue, manipulate and make up shit on a moment's notice. He also is just boyish enough to appeal to really old men and women - who are the base of the Bagger set.

if you keep watching (something I do not advocate but SOMEBODY's gotta do it) I bet you'll find more of these little tricks.

Please report back when you do. :hi:
