Just a reminder that the 'real' active hurricane season
begins next week and both the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific have active systems - three in the Eastern Pacific and four in the Atlantic.
Tropical Storm Harvey formed this morning and is heading for Central America with mostly water.

Remember if you live on the coast of the Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico or California, you should have plans in the event that a hurricane is heading your way.

Some folks somewhere are going to get hit - be prepared.

2. We're ready
A few days ago we were watching Harvey and he decided to head south of us.
Word is that 97 is going to hit a few places.

Remember these - Andrew formed on August 16 1992

Andrew was a perfect hurricane.

3. I'd never wish a hurricane on anyone, but we coould use the rain
It seems like it always takes a flood from a hurricane to bust a Texas drought. I'm hoping at least for some rain bands if one comes thru.

5. Hopefully Irene will bring you some relief
and if not then maybe Jose although given the anti-immigration tide in the US, I'm not sure Hurricane Jose will go down well. :D

You really are facing an awful drought. Who knows maybe some of Harvey's rain will reach you.

11. Hmmmm..bears watching from our place, too.
We are 90 miles due north of Pensecola.
That is nothing to a hurricane/tropical storm.
Thanks for the heads up, I have been gone most of the day.
"Coincidently" 3 people today happened to mention past hurricanes.

8. The '04 storms hit me all within six weeks time

I was right in the path of all three (Lakeland).

And then Wilma hit me in late October the next year.

You can never be too prepared, that's for sure.

14. As I recall it ...

Jeanne was the one whose forward motion slowed down to a crawl but the intensity didn't change, that cuased a lot of damage. And Charley was the one that the forecasters said should have gone due north up the Gulf coast. After a lot of people went inland to get out of the way Charley changed direction and hit them anyway when they would have been better off where they were. You just never can tell.

17. Floyd was awful when it hit Eastern NC.
It flooded many hog farms and the waste from them was mixed in with the flooding. Just the thought of that water gives me the willies now.

Camille was scary bad. Some fools stayed in some apartments near the beach to have a hurricane party, and they and the apartments were never seen again.

I hope Texas does get some rain, but be careful what you wish for. Make sure you are nowhere remotely near where there might be a flood. Consider places that haven't flooded before. People have been caught off guard all over the world by too much water too fast. Even with the drought, a lot of the water might runoff rather than sink in if it is coming down at too high a rate.

We can use rain here in SC too. If they head for 'teh crazy', Texas and SC should get multiple hits. DeMinted would be worth a couple. Hugo damned near wiped the whole state off the map.

I'll bet we get some very late hurricanes. Old weather patterns are screwed up and will probably stay that way. If hurricane season is anything like tornado season, we are SOL.

20. Floyd was wicked but the Bahamas got the worst of him

Formed September 7, 1999

Floyd struck The Bahamas at peak strength, causing heavy damage. It then paralleled the East Coast of the United States, causing massive evacuations and costly preparations from Florida through North the Mid-Atlantic states. The storm weakened significantly, however, before making landfall in North Carolina as a Category 2 hurricane, and caused further damage as it traveled up the Mid-Atlantic region and into New England.

35. It's your fault. I got so freaked out by hurricanes that my brain got scrambled.
I sure as hell wouldn't want to be on Ocracoke when a storm came along.

It wouldn't take much wind to capsize those ferries.

THAT'S WHY THEY NEED A TUNNEL!
