Why can't it be enough that the level of vitriol makes people uncomforatable enough
to jump to all sorts of conclusions when this sort of violence happens? Why can't that be a starting point for developing civilized debate in this country?

2. well one of the conversation points is clearly gun control
like going back to the assault weapon ban that would have limited the weapon the guy used in this crime. And few politicians want to open up that discussion. Sounds like we might get some hearings on mental illness. Of course mental health care costs $ and we can't have universal health care for non-mental illness so once again I doubt we will go in that direction.

Because there are those whose profits and power would suffer or end with too many civilized debates.

The lack of civility is a symptom and not the worst, not the disease.
