Just another sign of how well and truly fucked we are: military pensions on the block
Edited on Wed Aug-17-11 09:00 AM by Stinky The Clown
Yeah, sure, Leon, "grandfather them." Kick that can down the road, buddy. Good move if you're a fucking coward. Shut up the ones who can complain and then cut the shit out of the program. How have 401Ks worked for the rest of us?

Can anyone name a group of actual people, now, that is untouched by this "deficit cutting" fever that is weeping the country? Apart from the 1%, of course; they're immune.

Unions, teachers, government employees at all levels, factory workers, now even the military, which were once a sure fire route out of poverty.

edit to add the word "how" to the OP

4. Here's one
http://www.wltz.com/story/15278674/proposed-plan-could-cut-military-pensions

This has been at the top of every news outlet in the country. Not hard to find. I googled "military pension cuts" and got thirtythreebrazillian hits.

2. If they keep shitting on the GI's, at least they'll have our back when we revolt.
When the order from the Generals come down to shoot the protesters on Wall St, maybe they'll say "screw you general, I'm mad as hell too. My 401k took a hit this week. Hey man, don't throw that brick, here's a frag grenade."

9. Eventually, everyone is going to be soooo pissed in this country (I don't even
know if it can be called a country anymore) that it's hard to tell where we are ending up.

3. My partner is furious.
Theorhetically, it won't even affect him (he retired in 1994).
It's the principle. he put his life on the line for 20 years in three war zones. This was the agreement when he signed his life over to the US Government.
Now, the same government he swore to protect wants to fuck him?
The same government that wants to give MORE tax breaks to business?
Sorry. It pisses me off.

6. They just want to ensure everyone in USA, Inc. lives in poverty except for
a few percent. America is under siege, maybe more people will start to get WTF is going on. Americans are soooo naive and so propagandized.

8. THAT is what TPTB ALWAYS meant by the term "globalization." America joining the 3rd World.

12. It is, isn't it, and NAFTA/CAFTA are working to ensure just that. IMO it will
take decades to get this country back to what it used to be, but I have my doubts. The US has way too much competition today. Other countries have very smart people and we are no longer the only game in town.

11. Then, they will bring back the draft and at the end of service they'll give you
a thank you letter, and that's it. No 401k, no benefits, no anything, that's probably the ultimate plan in some circles. Wars make big profits for some and they need fresh meat to feed the war machine, so if none see benefits in volunteer service, then think of the cost savings by the draft. And welcome to dystopia.

I don't see much rosy about America in the 21st century. As some have said, the post WWII good times we had were an anomaly and not the norm.

10. As long as we keep the system which must reward the rich,
the Middle Class bears the brunt.

When the War was started In Afghanistan, the
largest tax cut was given to the Wealth Creators.

Times have changed I would say. These Wealth
Creators have created wealth and jobs everywhere
but in this country over the last 30 years.

The Middle Class and Poor send their kids to fight
the war and pay taxes to support the Military.

Both parties continue to reward the Rich.

14. And as I understand in some communities there is a proud tradition of
sending their Middle Class and Poor kids to fight these wars. It's a shame. They need to change their paradigm and realize they are sending their youth to the slaughter to feed the MIC profit machine. Does anyone really think the US wants peace. There are huge profits made by the MIC and they need fresh meat to feed the war machine.

And "Both parties continue to reward the Rich." We have only one party, "The Corporatist Party."

13. When military pensions are up for grabs
social security is up for grabs, medicare is up for grabs, but nobody gives a fuck about 2.16 billion in contractor funds ending up in Taliban hands, I think it's safe to say we don't care about military funding so much as we care about perpetuating war and letting profiteers loot our treasury.

There is always another depressing story about how the Pentagon and DoD brass have mismanaged money and pissed it away so they can keep their budget. If you don't spend it, it gets taken away, so they piss away any money they don't spend in competition with one another in extravagance and favors.

This isn't a unique insight - it's a fact. It isn't the soldiers in the field that are wasting it, it's the top brass, and no one dares question them as though they are even competent to defend our country. When you can't even see that the income disparity is going to lead to loss of life, you aren't fit to be a protector of the people, nor a member of the military.

15. Gee, that is the same exact thing the Soviet Union and the Roman Empire did....
...right before their final collapse.

It really looks like our Representatives of the Top 1% (Republicans & Democrats) are now grabbing all the loot they can
before the whole thing collapses.

BAD things this way comes.
Fuck MONEY,
better make sure you have something to eat.

Solidarity!

'well if the soldiers only had the common sense to die gloriously and loudly in a nice
proficient military heroic nationalistic manner instead of daring to get hurt or grow old, this problem wouldn't occur'
