Anyone want a free Obama bumper sticker?
I haven't been able to give away any bumper stickers for awhile now, but with everything that's going on, I think those of us who back the President should be showing him as much support as possible. So I have five to give away. Please PM me here if you want one. Only rules are (1) you promise to display it prominently (doesn't have to be on a car, but just somewhere visible), (2) your address is in the US (I can't afford postage for overseas, sorry) and (3) you have at least 50 posts here (I figure if you're a secret freeper, you would be found out before you've posted 50x, wouldn't you?). The bumper sticker is this one

I MIGHT have to fold it to get it in a standard size envelope, so I apologize in advance if it arrives like that.

Send me a message here, and I'll get back to the first five who respond. You don't have to give me your addie until I get back to you.

5. I'd be in, but I've already bought mine from the Obama store.
Despite how tight cash is, the $3 was worth it. :)

8. OK Im not trying to start a war here
but if you don't want one, can you just NOT post? There are still a few of us who would rather see him re elected than have a Perry-Bachmann White House. Thank you kindly.

27. I was going to not post until I read your request that people not post.
It's a REALLY bad idea for people displaying Obama bumper stickers to imply that everyone else is supporting "a Perry-Bachmann White House." There are many of us who will vote for Obama, because his re-election is clearly preferable to letting the Republicans back in, but who do so with some unhappiness. We aren't inclined to display bumper stickers or contribute time or money for a "lesser of two evils" choice. We'll vote for Obama but save our bumper space for progressive candidates.

Now, admittedly, some dissatisfied leftists will carry their grudge so far as to vote third party or leave the presidential line blank. I think that's a mistake. From the practical point of view, however, my advice to you, intended in a spirit of friendly quasi-disagreement, is that comments like yours tend to increase the sense of alienation and might push a borderline Obama voter into writing in Bernie Sanders.

If we can put up with voting for Obama as the lesser of two evils, then the Obama enthusiasts should put up with having grouches like us as part of the coalition.

28. Thank you
for your reply. I never implied that anyone who doesn't display an Obama bumper sticker "is supporting" a Perry-Bachmann White House. My comment did imply that through passive non-action by Democrats -- and yes, that includes not bothering to display a bumper sticker -- a Perry-Bachmann (or some other horror) White House is possible.

The one thing the Tea Baggers have going for them is enthusiasm. You can bet that every last one of them is going to donate, show up for rallies, talk to their friends, display bumper stickers, wear tshirts, and vote for the idiot of their choice. But if Democrats are going to adopt a passive "lesser of two evils" attitude, that does not foster an atmosphere of urgency or activism. And that kind of passivity can lead to inertia which can lead to not bothering to vote.

Of course "the Obama enthusiasts" can put up with "grouches" like you. Far from being an enthusiast myself, I am probably farther to the left than you are, but I'm also a realist. While I would love to write in Dennis Kucinich or Bernie Sanders, I realize the stupid futility of such an action. I'm not unaware that President Obama has made a lot of moves that I find questionable. But as for being the lesser of two evils, I don't consider him evil in the way I consider a Michele Bachmann or a Rick Perry to be evil. I consider him to be a rational man who believes many of the same things I believe, but who is making too many compromises. I want desperately for him to have a second term because I think, without the need to run for re election, Obama's second term could actually be transformative to this nation.
