Anyone else miss this last week: No more opt out of Secure Communities.

Immigration authority terminates Secure Communities agreements
By Tara Bahrampour, Published: August 7

A key immigration enforcement program that has drawn criticism from some state and local governments will terminate all existing agreements with jurisdictions over the program, federal authorities announced Friday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said its director, John Morton, had sent a letter to state governors terminating the agreements “to avoid further confusion.”

Through the program, the FBI shares fingerprint data of people arrested by local and state law enforcement agencies with federal authorities, who can use the information to check for immigration law violations. The agreements were meant to educate states about the availability of the service, ICE officials say.

The initiative, which began in 2008, has been implemented in about half the jurisdictions in the country, with a goal of having it in place nationwide by 2013.

1. Very confusing article.
From what I think I read, it means there is no longer any Opt-out option for states in sharing fingerprinting with DHS/FBI.
In other words, everyone is forced into the growing national database of arrest/print ( and in some areas, now bio-metric) information.

Did I get that right?

2. Yes, you did.
The agreements that are no longer available are the opt out agreements.

So, using illegal immigration as the hook, our local LEOs are required to share information with the Feds.

6. Seems as if there are a LOT of problems which then became hooks.
"voter fraud"...targets Dem/liberal voters, but not fraudulent campaign donations.

"terrorists"....provides excuses for loss of rights and liberties for citizens ( and death to unfortunate villagers in many countries)

"war on drugs"......fills jails with mostly minorities, funds police depts. with hi tech spy equipment.

"money laundering".....provides excuses to force banks to snoop on people's account activity
( but for some reason, never looks at how the banks launder so much drug money themselves)
