My 67 year old friend wants to go back to work. She's been retired
for a few years now but she thinks the workplace might be safer for her. Yesterday she had an old couch removed from her den and, after it was gone, went in and sat down...she's fine but her pride is brused. :-) She'd hate that I posted this but she doesn't come here.

1. I'm not understanding about the couch - what that means.

4. Sorry, I was trying to be delicate. She saw the couch out the door
and then went into her den to sit on it. These pesky things happen once and awhile to those of us reaching the age of wisdom. ;-)

14. Old habits often cause such behavior, and it happens to all ages. It's just

that after you get "wisdom" you don't feel such a need to keep it quiet or cover it up. ;)

And from the number of people that are hurt in their home vs the workplace, I wonder if she might not be correct.

6. I've been guilty of franticially
looking for my cell phone while talking ON MY cell phone. LOL .

It's just part of the aging process. No need to make drastic changes.

Hopefully she'll laugh at herself and move on.

7. She is laughing. A good sense of humor is very important in the
aging process.

8. I'm never retiring. I'll never be able to.
In fact, I just liquidated my "retirement" IRA today. Started it in 2000 and it had a whopping $7,000 in it. I'm glad your friend has the option. Too many of us will die at our jobs.

I don't believe in an afterlife, but I wish I was wrong. I desperately want to spend eternity haunting the motherfuckers that ruined the middle class.

9. I went back to work, part time, at the age of 68 and am still working at 71.

Fortunately, I had kept up the computer skills that you need in practically every job these days. It wasn't easy and I am lucky to have an employer who forgave me my mistakes until I got my groove back. Actually it did me good after my husband died. It forced me to start taking care of myself again. It doesn't hurt to have a reason to get dressed and put on your make-up and a job does that for you. It also helps that I don't have to worry about my medical care, as I have Medicare, and it's a plus for my employer who doesn't have to provide me with it.

15. You are fortunate to be able to even work park time
at your age. I was working full time until 2010 and was laid off at the age of 70. I would still be working now if I could. But there is no one who wants to hire a 72-year-old woman. And I certainly do not want to be a WalMart greeter. Thankfully, I am collecting social security and have some savings in the bank to tide me over a few years.

time medical receptionist and I don't need a full time job, so it works for both of us and I did have previous experience in the field. I really do thank my lucky stars. Keep looking. I do hope something opens up for you.

10. still laughing
the people that don't get it right away are still young enough...

I get it, but the element of sadness is that the same thing can't happen to me... there is true joy often is the predictable, dependable, stable things in our life...

13. Well, it could happen to
any of us as we get older. I'm almost 68 and haven't yet sat down on a couch that wasn't there, but I've done other strange things during senior moments. :-)
