An ugly start to Rick Perry’s campaign, present evidence or apologize
Editorial Board Opinion
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/an-ugly-start-to-rick-perrys-campaign/2011/08/16/gIQAe7SIJJ_story.html?hpid=z3

(snip)

“To play politics?” Mr. Bernanke was appointed chairman of the Fed by a Republican president, George W. Bush. He was reappointed by a Democratic president, Barack Obama, in an acknowledgment of how indispensable he had become in a time of crisis. In fall 2008, when global finances threatened to spin out of control, Mr. Bernanke responded with a steeliness that may have saved the country from disaster far worse than the severe downturn it has experienced.

That’s our view; it’s the view, we’d wager, of most economists. Mr. Bernanke’s actions had the support of both Mr. Bush and then-candidate Obama, of Republican Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and future Democratic Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner. And in the years since, Mr. Bernanke and his team have done as much as the Fed should do to get the economy moving again.

Now if Mr. Perry disagrees, that’s fine. The actions of the Fed leading up to, during and after the crisis will be studied and critiqued for decades. Maybe Mr. Perry could have done better; we’ll be interested to hear his economic program in the days to come.

(snip)
If Mr. Perry has evidence to the contrary, he should present it. If not, he should apologize.

1. This Is How Rick Perry Campaigns
This is how Rick Perry campaigns. All you complacent, arrogant, self-important bozos in the corporate media need to wise up to the fact that the Republican presidential nominee is likely to be a vicious, unthinking, ruthless ideologue who will do or say anything to be elected President. You guys can leave him alone or give him the same sort of uncalled-for deference that you gave Dubya, OR you can get off your lazy backsides and thoroughly investigate this man Rick Perry, his actions, his political decisions, his friends and his political agenda. You can either get over your fawning behavior towards the Radical Right or you can let Texas Republicans finish the job that Dubya started of flushing this country's future as a leader of enlightened, developed nations down the toilet.

3. He certainly knows that those likely to gather in his shadow will believe
and parrot anything he says whether it is true or not.

7. He prefers lies because he can shape them as he pleases.
He finds that facts are just not that flexible.

6. And what if he does neither, O Washington Post?
You gonna send out reporters to ask tough questions and demand answers instead of mealy-mouthed focus group prattle? Because that's all you're likely to get unless you get just a tad bit more adversarial than you've been for the past 35 years. Does the Ghost of David Broder still haunt the halls of your newspaper, or are you ready to act as an independent media outlet again?

I can tell you for sure that if this is the extent of your tut-tutting about Rick Perry and his reckless statements, he and the rest of the Republican field will have no compunction at all about saying anything and everything to foment violence in furtherance of their political ambitions.
