Obama’s Dismal Prospects for re-election as President

Obama’s Dismal Prospects
By Matthew Rothschild
Editor of The Progressive
August 15, 2011

Just look at Obama’s poll numbers. In the latest Gallup poll, he has a miserable 39 percent approval rating, with 54 percent disapproving. And another recent poll showed that 73 percent believe the country’s on the wrong track.

It’s going to be difficult for him to win with these numbers, especially with the economy as weak as it is, and with his hands tied by the Republicans.

Actually, he’s managed to tie his own hands behind his back, which is not easy to do. He signed on to the debt ceiling agreement. And he’s still favoring a “grand bargain” of trillions of dollars of cuts, including in Medicare and Social Security, cuts that would not only further dampen the economy but that would also betray core Democratic programs.

Since he lowballed the initial stimulus, he hasn’t forcefully presented new programs to put people to work or to keep them in their homes. He’s shown no urgency, up to now, to deal with these central problems. Instead, he foolishly focused on the debt and the deficit.

1. He needs to do something to get back those moderate voters.
With liberal Democrats, he's doing fine - 81% approval! The moderates are not as high though, so he should move a bit to the center to get them.

3. That's a joke, right?
HOW could possibly he move more to the center? From the right, you mean? Any more to the so-called center and he will fall off the edge.

15. He can only do that under political cover. AS the Tea Party is used.

When a Republican follows a pledge, or wants ACROSS THE BOARD cuts, it is easier. Lazy in fact. But, as unpopular as they would be, they can yell, not my fault. Obama needs US to yell and scream that he had BETTER move left, with jobs programs, reduced empire costs. Our screaming is what gives him political cover. Political capital is what most here want Obama to squander in one weak pathetic ultimatum. When he had the whole congress for instance. WEEEEEEEEEE must shove him left. He will go there if he is pushed. He even asked us to. As clear as he could be without being obvious. The reagan myths prevail, cuz WEEEEEEEEEE dont fight them where we find them. Oh, thats so white trash. So unliberal. Dont cause or be associated with scenes.

We must STRUGGLE, to achieve what we desire. It is the way it has always been. No use claiming the universe is not fair. We must do what we must do.

13. Abolish the Department of Education and withdraw from the United Nations!
That's sure to garner the coveted John Birch Society vote that he obviously feels he needs to get over the top.

14. How about moving left to where the moderate voters are?
How about shutting up about cutting SS and Medicare?

How about no more negotiating with teabagger terrorists and their other Repuke playmates?
