But I don't think it's much of a faux pas. It probably was a rather lame attempt to 'connect' with Iowa fair goers, but that goes with the territory in political campaigns. I guess they have calculated that it's better to risk looking stupid than to seem snobbish and never take the chance (especially since they are trying to cast Obama as an 'elitist' who wouldn't deign to mingle with the plebs at a state fair).

I don't give a shit who eats a corn dog or how they look doing it and I don't think it says much of anything about being 'presidential.' Obama could stuff 12 in his mouth at a time and while conservatives would probably use it against him, I wouldn't care one whit. There are plenty of things about Bachmann that aren't very presidential, but I wouldn't count her eating habits among them.

Remember that before Monica the press often tsk-tsked Clinton about his affinity for fast food? This is kind of like that but with a juvenile sexual angle thrown in.

But then I have the same issue with the "teabagger" term. Personally, I never hear of the sexual connotation of teabagging until it was made an issue by the young hip crowd who knows their urban slang / sexual terms / pornography (take your pick). If I were a member of the self-described teabaggers, I'd have owned the term and told those who used it suggestively that teabags were around a long time before there was a sexual connotation and they should just shove it.

But that's just me. I also find it weird that youngsters think the term "the money shot" has a meaning only in the context of certain porn shots. No, dears, that term was around in photography a long time before porn became mainstream.
