point that under the Texas constitution, it's the Lieutenant Governor who really runs things, not the governor. (BTW - if any Texans can comment on that, I'd appreciate it.) It dawned on me that this is where George Bush developed the habit of passing off so many responsibilities and so much power to his VP. So now my question is, who would Perry bring along with him to work in the background?

1. "While Perry Campaigns, Who's in Charge in Texas?"
http://www.texastribune.org/texas-politics/2012-presidential-election/perry-campaigning-who-governs-texas/

Gov. Rick Perry, campaigning in Iowa again today, heads back to New Hampshire and South Carolina later this week. But while Perry's out of state, who's in charge in Texas?

With Perry gone, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst assumes the role of chief executive. If both are out, the president pro tem of the Senate takes over. But in the months immediately after a regular legislative session, no matter who's in charge, there's often little to do.

"It's not on autopilot, but it's pretty routine, especially the first year of the biennium,” said former state Rep. Talmadge Heflin, who served on the House Appropriations Committee in 1999 — the last time a Texas governor was out campaigning for president.

Audio: Ben Philpott's story for KUT News
"It's kind of like if you were paid twice a year,” Heflin said. “When you first get your paycheck, there are a lot fewer questions you have to answer than in the fifth month."

8. Shh, don't tell them and maybe they won't notice.
We're doing better without their attention on us. ;-)

7. Nah. The more realistic possibility is scarier:
Secretary of State John Bolton. And it doesn't even have to be Perry who wins; and GOPper will do.

DOUG FEITH ADVISING RICK PERRY ON FOREIGN POLICY |

The National Review Online reports that Texas GOP governor Rick Perry appears to be getting serious about running for president because apparently he is “brushing up on foreign policy.” And who is helping Perry with the brushing? None other than Doug Feith, whom Gen. Tommy Franks famously referred to as the “stupidest guy on the face of the earth.” Feith is also well known for leading the Pentagon’s Office of Special Plans (a.k.a “The Lie Factory“) that cooked up faulty intel on Iraq’s WMD program before the invasion.

6. Tx government...
the roll of governor is inherently weak. Many people here equate it with a glorified ribbon cutter. Which, basically, it is.

The position of Lt G. has more vested power than the governor to actually get things done.

However, via how the state constitution is set up, the real power of the state is in the legislature.

10. We All Know If Perry Gets Elected That Many Of The Same Faces From BushCo Will Show Up Again.....
and they will be up to their old antics. That's what happens when you let criminals get a pass and take any investigation or prosecution off the table and move forward and not look back. We might not look back - but you can bet your ass that the Repugs will look back and bring back the old tried and true crew.

The negative implications of a Repug getting back in office are staggering and real scary. I don't care how much you feel betrayed by Obama - we have to re-elect him or everything good that he will have done in his term in office will be undone and the Repugs will carry us back to the olden days where - you won't be able to sleep at night for fear of what they are going to do to make your life miserable and the lives of millionaires and billionaires and the corporations easier.
