Rachel Maddow: Ames Straw Poll is a meaningless ‘racket’

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow explained on her show Monday night why the Ames Straw Poll in Iowa was a “bingo game” with meaningless results for the Republican presidential race.

“The sort of refreshing thing about the Ames Straw Poll is that the people making money off this racket, the Iowa Republican Party, fully admit that it is a racket that is just designed to make them money,” she said.

“Based on the way the beltway media handles the Ames Straw Poll, you might surmise that Ames Straw Poll has some predictive power,” Maddow continued. “It does not however happen to be true.”
