11. I had this comic in mind just by reading the subject line
When I was a kid, I didn't really understand the context, of course now I find it hilarious! =)

And Hobbes is named for Thomas Hobbes.

16. What I can't figure out is why the CEOs of health insurance companies
are better paid than the doctors and other medical personnel.

Seems to me the doctors and other medical personnel could work just as well without the CEOs of the insurance companies, whereas the CEOs of the insurance company wouldn't exist for a minute without the doctors and the other medical personnel.

21. I miss that strip dearly...I grew up on C&H!
I miss it dearly and have since the day it ended. It ran in first print from the time I was in Jr. HS through college and I never missed a day of it - my roommates and I would go so far as buying copies of the Chicago Tribune just for Mike Royko articles and Calvin and Hobbes cartoons for YEARS!

That strip really nails the entire essence of the current madness though...eerily prescient!

23. K&R

"Stand firm for what you believe in. Until and unless logic and experience prove you wrong. Remember, when the emperor looks naked, the emperor is naked. The truth and a lie are not "sort of" the same thing. And there is no aspect, no facet, no moment of life that can't be improved with pizza. Thank you."
