Half Of Americans Believe Austerity Will Lead To Violent Unrest

(SteveWatson) – Almost half of all Americans believe that government spending cuts will lead to civil unrest on a scale recently seen in London, according to a new survey.

48% of respondents in a Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey indicated that they believe it is at least somewhat likely that if austerity measures are enacted there will be violence on the streets.

According to the survey, those under 50 years of age think unrest is more likely, with a majority of 58% believing cuts will make it likely.

Less Americans are convinced that tax hikes and stock market woes will trigger unrest, however, in both cases over a third still fear those factors will contribute to uprisings.

1. Which Would Totally Hand the Election to the Repiglickins
Doesn't anybody remember 1968?

And all the Repigs have to do is keep on saying no, and let their minions fan said unrest.

2. 1968? Why that was the year Laugh-In debuted.
Hot Wheels came out then too.

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...

5. This is good news.
It shows that young people are getting involved in politics.

I don't think I could have said that a few years ago. My nephew is almost 17 and i'm on him to get informed.

He doesn't really want to hear me, but he's gonna.

9. Who believes that tax hikes will lead to violent unrest?
Do they expect to see the 1% out rioting in the streets?

Or are they actually paying attention to the Republicans who think the problem is that the poor aren't taxed enough?

10. Oh wait, you mean almost half of americans
understand why riots happen? GOOD.

I was feeling that alone.

Necessary disclaimer though, getting it does not mean one condones it.
