How Perry will get me Tombstoned, and a (partial) concession to the President's Cheerleaders
Call me pessimistic. I have low expectations for some of my so called "fellow Americans".

Even with how radical, how out of the mainstream, how downright f*(cking SCARY the though of Rick Perry getting his hands on the levers of power in this nation is, there is a sizable contingent of individuals upon whom his Jedi mindtricks will work. He will be the Republican nominee.

Basically put, if we fuck around, he will be president.

This is causing me to commit to vote for the President in 2012.

Now, how will this Texas asshat possibly get me Tombstoned?

When he is the nominee, I will commit to the president. I will pull the lever. I will ask my family and friends to vote for his reelection. And I will curse my president's weak, vacillating, ineffectual, half-assed support of Democratic ideals with every waking breath. I'll weep bitter tears as I check the box for him. I'll seethe with anger for him refusing to fight and negotiating against himself every. single. time. I'll have to resist the urge with every fiber of my being to keep from posting even more invective here and get a "pizza" for my anger.

I will, once again, have voted for the lesser of two evils. I will once again be voting AGAINST a candidate instead of FOR one. I'll once again vote in accord with the argument made by too damned many here: "If you think HE sucks, just consider the OTHER guy!!!111"

Damn it all. Damn it all to hell.

1. Anger at Obama does not get people tombstoned
Even if you "seethe".

2. I know
If we don't have a perfect president.... all is lost! We're doomed!

3. When the rhetoric and the effect...
of having our Democratic one is only slightly distinguishable from a Republican one, yeah...your right. But I guess asking for some daylight between him and the R's is demanding "perfection" now.

8. Daylight?
I can see the daylight. And believe me, over the next year, you will too.

We all saw what 8 years of bush was like and now is relative daylight compared to those dark times.

Our problem is the congress. We need more congress people pushing our side in DC.

12. We need a president pushing our side
and then maybe the congress and the people would follow
If one does not like where the leader is leading, why follow??
I voted for candidate Obama, I will vote for President Obama if he gets the nomination.
I do not like where and how he is leading this country.
His actions do not match his words.

13. I grok that
But when we did have a congress it was fun for awhile and then somehow we lost the congress, and now it is no fun at all.

We'll never get a perfect president. America will never elect a real hippie. America won't last that long. So, I vote to at least have some fun and a new congress might just get 'er done?

4. I've waited my whole life for a candidate I could vote for
instead of one I pulled the lever for because the other guy was a total asshat.

And I'm old!

I don't think being able to vote for someone is ever going to happen for either of us. Even if we did get someone we were passionately in favor of into the White House, Congress would work against him, even a Democratic Congress, teaching "that radical" a lesson.

I'm beginning to see the key more as Congress, although it's nice to know the guy in the White House won't veto any good stuff that gets through. The only way to drag any of these guys from either party to the left is to kick out the DLC and elect progressives to Congress.

That's not going to happen in my lifetime, either.

7. My whole family loves Perry.
They're all from the northeast.

If I'm in a solidly red state, I will vote my conscience and not vote for President. If I live in a swing state, I will vote for the lesser of two evils. And I'll feel bad about it.

9. Some of us have been voting for the lesser of two evils for our entire lives...
Such is the two party system.

Sometimes we become giddy during a primary, but usually the winner of that event isn't the most progressive one.

14. We are stuck, for now, with the two party system.
There's no shame in taking the Modified Hippocratic Voter's Oath: "First do the least amount of harm, while actually influencing the outcome of the election."

15. Once the primaries are over I'll have to abandon DU if the mods allow the Obama bashing to persist.
Otherwise I am afraid I too will be tombstoned.

17. Easier said than done, my undead friend.
I've been her ten years and my Ignore List has never been near as large as it is now.

I don't like using it, but I guess it's better than losing self control and inadvertently biting the granite chiclet.

20. I have a problem using ignore, even when it gets toxic.
It's like mind-censorship. I can't selective hear what people are rambling about on the streets. But I can refuse to comment to them. That's why I wish reverse ignore was a feature, but there have been comments about it being able to be used for abuse.

21. The problem comes when I see some actively trying to suppress votes for a Democratic president.
It gets REAL hard to hold my tongue and not cut to the root of the poster's motivation.

19. I went back and looked at my 2008 primary threads and I was a horrible horrible person.
I really had a foul mouth, shocked I wasn't banned.

I'll try but it's going to get crazy around here.

People really think this is a joke, but we cannot allow those fascists to control the country again, we cannot.

Unless there's a realistic, viable, strong challenger, people need to just suck it up if they actually care about the country.
