Everyone says Mitt Romney...
religion is a problem for him with a lot of conservative voters. I believe this to be true.

If Romney were a Democrat, running on pretty liberal positions, do you think his religion would be a problem with Democratic voters? I don't think so, because it seems that's one of the least important thing to Dem voters. We don't do a "are you religious enough" test. In fact I think it's just the opposite, we'd rather it not be a factor at all.

Personally I don't care what religion you are or aren't as long as you don't govern based on your beliefs.

Opinions?

1. Mormonism is weird, and Romney is not just a little bit Mormon.
He is really really very truly super duper Mormon.

2. YES! It's a massive issue and it is sad.
It will go down something disgusting like this.
Governor Romney: Is it true that many Mormon families do not celebrate Christmas?

This country is founded on freedom of religion, yet it is one of the GOP's most powerful weapon in our struggle for Democracy.

3. If he were a Democrat, I'd consider his religion a slight advantage, as I believe that a great deal
of damage has been and is being done by blaspheming "Christians", so anything that takes them down a notch or two is useful.

OTH, Mormon emphasis upon matrial/economic rewards for "spiritual" traits, especially obedience, just like Dominionism, really does creep me out.

4. I think that it could still be a problem but not as much. The Mormon
religion is very different from traditional Christian religions (some similarities with far right religions like the ones Perry is courting). I am 69 years old and I cannot remember a time when they have truly been accepted as part of the Christian Church by any of the denominations. Thus they would probably still be a problem for the Christians in the Democratic Party.

I for one am not comfortable with their hidden agendas. When booosh was in, my sister said that DC was overrun by Mormon advisers. I had a friend who lived in Utah for a while and they told him that when the US government fell it was their plan to take control. I am afraid of any group Mormon or Perry style that intends to do that. Everyone is right - they are weird.
