I just found 2 used gun targets...

NH is going nuts.

Money poured into NH to turn the state back to red this year, and it worked.
One of the very first things the knuckle-draggers did was to lift the old ban on guns allowed in the Statehouse.
This has been a point of discussion in the local paper, a very heated discussion.
I have participated, and someone has found my address...

I found these on the ground in front of my house - I am being targeted.

31. It looks like a lame, poorly thought-out, juvenile prank at most to me
Whoever did it, assuming it was intentional, didn't even bother using something like a photo of Tesha or at least a silouette target. It looks like someone just took some used targets that he or she happened to have on hand, and dumped them.

Not exactly a serious situation.

13. I did call the police
- and was given a pat on the head.

Officer Kevin Rautenberg didn't feel it was anything a visit by the police would help.
Damn, first I was just dumbfounded and put them in the trash - then shaky and felt like crying -
now I'm just pissed and I've got the targets in a folder and damn if I couldn't see this really nice print.

16. One of those is a Birchwood Casey Shoot-n-C target
I know because I use them sometimes to increase visibility for my shots when I want to work on placement. In this context, I think whoever left these on your property wanted you to get a really good look at the bullet holes.

From what I can tell, the guy isn't exactly a crack shot, but this does look like a threat and I hope you're able to convince someone in law enforcement to treat it as such.

19. And there's no way these could have blown in from somewhere?
I'm not calling your genuine concern into question, I'm just thinking like the authorities might (hence the head pat). If you don't think there is a way that these could have blown into your yard, I would call the local police again, explain your situation and ask to speak to the officer's supervisor. If that doesn't work, threaten a call to the media (or actually call the media) and that may light a fire.

We're all on edge right now. On the other hand, if there is a specific person who has threatened you in the past, or a previous incident, that info needs to go to the police, also.

21. Thanks for the advice folks...

Yes, it's recycling day so who knows? Sometimes a few of my papers get loose - I've never had anyone else's stuff show up here - not once.
Why just 2 things? Why things of different weight? Why would they both be targets when the local discussion is guns?

I called back the police and got the same guy - who confirmed that it really wasn't anything they could do.
I've got the targets and if anything else happens I WILL call someone - and they WILL do something.

I WON'T be intimidated - and I won't shut up.

23. ok a couple of questions ...
1. do you live in town or the country ...
Country is usually the Sheriffs area of responsibility town is the local PD.

2. if the local PD didn't give you a warm fuzzy ... call the sheriff or the state police ..

3. get times and names of ppl you talk to and a summary of what was said ... recordings are better ... but a summary
will work ...

stay aware ...

24. We're in a town...

In a nice little cul-de-sac - and I'll let the neighbors know I found these.
People were mostly away today so I doubt anyone saw anything.

I'll think about who to contact, but I'll probably ask my husband to call -
I got the feeling that even a calm-sounding woman could be hysterical...

I did get his name and times - and I called twice. The second time I spoke with the same guy, was a little calmer, and got his name.

_______

and one more thing - I'm going to post this everywhere - including
an LTE in the paper where I may have angered a guns-a-blazin'
person when I suggested that allowing guns in the Statehouse is a mistake.

If I'm really vocal anything that happens will be taken more seriously, and maybe not being intimidated by this will send a message.

If there aren't many sporting goods stores or shooting ranges in your town, it might be worth speaking to the store managers about the incident. They might be able to give you an idea of who did it.

27. I was just thinking as I read this

and if the threat is real...maybe it was just trash ....I can just hear the teabaggers soothing words to themselves:

"We're all Jared Loughner now"

I've had similar incidents from LTTE (pro-choice, Gawd help me) and while on the radio, and find that most of the time these people are cowards. They will never directly confront you.

Maybe if you put up one of those fancy signs that says "We don't call 911" they might leave you alone. Otherwise they may think you have no protection and think you're an easy target. At any rate, lock up tight and keep alert. hang on to the papers for evidence (be nice if you could dust them for prints?) and keep telling others, including neighbors.

Gun nuts are serious wackos....stay safe.

40. Gun Nut

Someone who is paranoid that others will cause them to change their relationship with their weapons.
This is not the normal gun owner or even enthusiast - this is the person who is unable to discuss guns rationally.

I have to admit that this could possibly be an accident (which would be great) - or a joke (which would still be a bit scary). But there are some really sick local folks that have been responding to my posts with raving and odd posts containing very personal attacks.

Either way, my husband is going to visit neighbors this week to see if they can shed any light on the subject.

38. Oh gawd, here we go

let me define it for you...someone who is so pissed off that the OP wrote a LTTE expressing dislike of guns being brought into public buildings that they place targets on that person's property.

That's a gun nut. So fear-filled because they may not be able to carry their gun into a daycare center, a legislative building or a courthouse that they try to intimidate someone who agrees with those restrictions. Someone so angry, so attached to their gun they want to use fear to overcome their own fear of having to go ANYWHERE WITHOUT THEIR PIECE.

Does that clear it up for you?

playing with yours leads to evidence that those pieces of targets were 'placed' by someone. It's good though, that you believe your own opinion...if you stop doing that, it's a sign of something bad. :D

46. Reading is fundamental

if you look at the original post in this thread that i made, i said "IF THIS IS A REAL THREAT" ie, if someone placed the targets there.

that is called a qualifier, see? And the rest of my advice hinged on the qualifier.

The OP assumes, and perhaps very justifiably so since she just wrote an LTTE that would piss off the gunwackos - that someone placed the targets.

Does that help you?

What I cannot help you with is your stating the OP is overreacting. Given that gun violence just took place in a political context, the OP has every right to fear for her safety if some gun not wants to take her out as Loughner took out six people this week.

i'm sorry for you that guns kill people. it would be so nice if all of our guns only blew sparkly paper.

Some gunwackos appear to believe that's all their guns do when they're arguing about how "safe" the gun culture is. Isn't that ridiculous to you? it certainly is to me.

47. I was simply concerned about the apparent lack of consistency, since in your other post
you said, verbatim, "someone who is so pissed off that the OP wrote a LTTE expressing dislike of guns being brought into public buildings that they place targets on that person's property."

Which looked at first read like you had some reason to claim the target fragments were deliberately placed and that you had gleaned that additional information from somewhere I hadn't managed to locate. I only go by what I see on the page. :-) I think that's called in some circles "facts not in evidence."

I suppose I do take it a bit personally when someone continues to harangue gun owners with epithets like "nuts" and "wackos". My patience has worn a bit thin after 50 years of being called 'faggot' and other less pleasant things.

48. Your patience or lack thereof is not really my problem

Your concern is noted. I was describing a kind of person, not anyone in particular.

It just dawned on me, noodling on my guitar, that some people view their guns as a "lifestyle," a symbol of autonomy, security and freedom. These are the ones who get all up in arms if others aren't completely enamored of guns in every location known to man - in the same manner that some Christians get up in arms if you say "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas." Obsessed in my book, but for them that's normal.

My guns, to me, are merely tools. Like shovels.

If I saw someone with a roomful of shovels, hoarding them, I would consider them nutty. If they had to take their shovel everywhere they go or they couldn't feel safe (not counting during a Zombie outbreak, of course) or couldn't feel like they had rights without taking their shovel any and everywhere, I would call them a wacko.

Now who's to say who is right or wrong? It's all opinion. My wacko might be your normal.

52. Since I consider guns to be penis extenders in some people's hands
I wonder why they feel like they need to play with them and pack 'em everywhere too.

The ones who view them as you do sound like well-adjusted responsible owners of fire arms. The others sound like fetishists whose guns represent unhealthy obsessions.

I like your shovel analogy.
