Does anyone recall the name of this early MSNBC host....

He died from cancer not too long after having gall bladder surgery.

His set looked like an old newsroom with an old filing cabinet and manual typewriter. I think he often wore a '40s style hat or at least is was there on his desk.

I checked Wiki for MSNBC but couldn't find a name that panned out or looked familiar.
