5 Reasons Why National Deficit is the Republicans' Fault
Edited on Sat Aug-13-11 08:17 AM by MN TN
GOP has been turning everything around and are using the deficit as an excuse to get rid of government spending when its actually THEIR fault:

1. BUSH'S HUGE TAX CUTS TO WEALTHY AMERICANS
2. BUSH'S IRAQ WAR - very expensive and based on lies, not 9-11. And it was Obama who finally ended that war and who finally caught Bin Laden.
3. WALL STREET BAILOUT - another clear example of corporate welfare.
4. HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT - So not enough people are paying taxes. Where are the jobs promised by the Bush Tax Cuts?!! Then last year the stock market shot up but still no jobs. So "trickle down" economics is just another lie.
5. CORPORATIONS - finding loopholes to get out of paying taxes and sending jobs over seas for cheap labor and environmental exploitation.

1. Norquist laid out the strategy
years ago...

spend, spend, spend and cut taxes at the same time...in other words create a huge deficit with no way to pay for it unless you cut out ALL THE NEW DEAL PROGRAMS and you are left with only two "mandatory" spending categories: debt service and defense.....

they were masterful at it....and handed "crisis" after crisis to make it happen...we were duped in the worst ways.

3. Not all of us were duped.
But somehow all of us have been unable to be activist enough
to prevent the Reep voter fraud, hacking, caging, and suppression
of the poor and minority vote.

6. I think it's because
of a number of reasons....

we (the activists) are among the very few paying attention
we are considered "conspiracy theorists" if we speak out
normal (non-activist) don't have the time to look at the issues...athey listen only to sound bytes or slogans
normals have been "dumbed down" enough to not understand or pay attention to minute actions that are the harbinger of bigger strategies
normals have been convinced that "both parties are crooked" so "vote your values"(see What's the Matter With Kansas?)
normals are falling back to the familiar, the so-called safety of religion, pseudo-values and rejecting the very things that made us great.

oh yeah...one more thing....

our party leadership hasn't been exactly great at messaging for the past decade or so...

8. 5 Reasons Why National Deficit is the Republicans' Fault...and Everybody Else's Fault
1. BUSH'S HUGE TAX CUTS TO WEALTHY AMERICANS

- These are now Obama's tax cuts, for he brokered a deal with the Democratic controlled House, to extended them last year.

2. BUSH'S IRAQ WAR - very expensive and based on lies, not 9-11. And it was Obama who finally ended that war and who finally caught Bin Laden.

- The Iraq war has ended..? Well then, what the hell is this...? http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/3-us-troops-killed-in-iraq-adding-to-deadly-month/2011/06/30/AGrDQprH_story.html

3. WALL STREET BAILOUT - another clear example of corporate welfare.

- (TARP) was passed by a Democratic Congress and signed by a Republican President, to address the subprime mortgage crisis, which was the effect of the Community Reinvestment Act, which encouraged lending to uncreditworthy borrowers.

4. HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT - So not enough people are paying taxes. Where are the jobs promised by the Bush Tax Cuts?!! Then last year the stock market shot up but still no jobs. So "trickle down" economics is just another lie.

- See #1

5. CORPORATIONS - finding loopholes to get out of paying taxes and sending jobs over seas for cheap labor and environmental exploitation.

- Finding loopholes is like searching for Easter Eggs that the D & R of DC Group hid in a 71,684 page Tax Code. I never enjoyed searching for Easter Eggs, but if I thought a golden egg was amongst them, I would surely have a look.

11. No, I am admitting that I am not afraid to see what I see.
We no longer have a government of, for and by the People; rather, we have a government of, for, and by two corrupt political parties.

12. Well, you simply are not seeing the Whole Picture
Edited on Sat Aug-13-11 11:17 PM by MN TN
1. There are still a small number of troops in Iraq but only to help stabilize it.
See: http://articles.nydailynews.com/2010-08-31/news/27074186_1_iraq-war-president-obama-war-policy
2. Regarding WallStreet bailout, see Michael Moore's latest movie. According to him, this was a crafty Repub trick that was forced through Congress at the last minute against the wishes of the Democrats.
3. Regarding the extension of the Bush Tax Cuts, Obama really had no choice but to continue these cuts because of our economy presently being so vulnerable. And a major argument used by GOP to keep these tax cuts was to create jobs, which didn't happen.
4. Regarding the Deficit Crisis,Obama of course wanted to tax the Super Rich. However, he knew the tea party would allow the country to go into default before paying any taxes. Obama simply had no choice and there was no time left to negotiate.
If our country had defaulted, that would be even worse than spending cuts.

9. When unemployment is above 9%, the national deficit should
not be any kind of concern whatsoever (and, in fact, should probably be much higher due to increasing government spending).

The time to worry about the national deficit, if ever, is when the economy is at full employment. I was and am no big fan of Bill Clinton, but surely everyone has noticed that Clinton came into office with the government running deficits and Bush Senior's recession. By the end of Bill Clinton's second term, we had full employment, higher marginal rates on the wealthy and consequently annual budget surpluses (the opposite of budget deficits and the nominal reason the Bush tax cuts were enacted, i.e., 'to return that surplus to the people').

13. George Bush never met a dollar he did want to spend
He has been consistent with taking down two companies and he
took down the USA. He was lucky to have a democrat congress
who realized what would happen if the banks failed. This is
700 billion in increased debt on Obama's plate. The
teapublicans did not understand what default meant so we will
be paying the cost of their stupidity for years to come.
