I just realized that I went to elementary school with Rep. Giffords' husband.

And his twin brother Scott. When I saw Mark Kelly's name and picture, it didn't click. When someone made the mistake of referring to Rep. Giffords' husband as Scott Kelly, it clicked. I thought, "Scott and Mark Kelly? Can't be. Let's have a look. Wow, they both became astronauts! Only siblings to go to space! And, damn..."

I have always remembered the Kelly brothers fondly. They both liked to draw and were quite good at it. As children, Scott was the stronger one, and very protective of Mark. I'm glad he's there for him now. I'm so proud of them, and at the same time so sad to know they are among the fine people victimized by awful people armed to the teeth.

Uneducated, unemployed, and uninterested in bettering themselves. For too many such people, being white, American, and armed is good enough.
