Turn the way back machine on and look way back at what the top tax rates were for what would be now billionaires vs just millionaires and workers.

We need to have someone add to it the median wage rates and keep it available all the times..

It causes smoke to come out of the ears of tea party people.. especially it someone could take each year on it with the GDP.

1. This is great. Thanks....
I wish I had something that told me what the median household income was each of those years as well.

5. Here's what jumps out at me.. the disparity was still there..always
Edited on Thu Aug-11-11 06:43 PM by SoCalDem
As far back as I went, "my" bracket pretty much stayed the same percentage..and look at 1959

a family making $4k was obligated for 22%...

even though the highest were on the hook for 91%, we know they wiggled out of most of it, but the lower paid people could not file a long form or use loopholes, so they had to pay it all

7. $4000 in 1959 = $30,336 in 2011
http://www.dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm

$30.336 is in the 25% tax bracket in 2011.

6. Your copy appears to be missing some pages...
For there are 71,684 pages in the U.S. tax code.

The amount of $$$ collected by taxes has, for the most part, risen steadily over the years.

8. Here's a chart on median household income
Basically showing that from 1967 to 2009 median househould income has not risen all that much.

Also a 2009 article that pretty much links to census income data and shows that we had 10 years with no median household income gains and in fact a reduction in that number.

9. Immediate pre-Depression top rates were extraordinarily low, weren't they...

Thank you for posting the tables, they are a great reference.
