Boy mauled by dog - family has no insurance - can you help?
Boy Mauled By Dog Released from the Hospital

http://tinyurl.com/4xqre33

Brandon was discharged Tuesday after being hospitalized for nearly a week following reconstructive surgery.

Brandon, a blue-eyed boy with a contagious smile, was mauled by a female pit bull mix and a large black male dog outside a home in the 1000 block of Branch Drive in Newport as he carried a wrongly delivered package to a neighbor's home.

Cocke County Sheriff's Office deputies said the dogs were owned by Jennifer R. Switzer, 21, and Anthony L. Lugar, 22, who were later arrested on charges of allowing animals to run at large. The two are due in court for a preliminary hearing on their respective charges Aug. 29.

Brandon said when he tried to run from the dogs, they knocked him over and the pit bull, which authorities said was in heat, mauled him.

1. The owners should be forced to pay the bills. The county should cover things
in the meantime. No one, let alone an innocent child, should have to go begging for help like this.

Hell, if we had single payer this wouldn't even make the news, he would just get cared for.

I am ashamed to be an American.

3. God Bless America. Another reason for having Universal Healthcare and NOT insurance!
How is this boy able to pull up his boot straps? Obviously, his parents can't afford coverage on their own and their work place doesn't offer a plan. Land of the crap and shit sandwich more aptly describes our country. Maybe a Richie Rich wil see this story and donate their money to helping this boy since our congresscritters, Supremes, and President are unable to tax these "job producer" to actually make sure that all Americans can be treated for medical conditions and emergency accidents. Those parents are going to end up with a huge bill from the hospital and may end up in bankruptcy because their son acted as a good neighbor and delivered a mis-sent package.

Perhaps, they can sue the delivery service for the wrong delivery and the neighbors for their dog.. The reality is, though, that the delivery service didn't tell the boy to deliver the package for them and the kids next door are 21 and 22. They probably don't have any money either amd most likely are renting, rather than homeowners. You can't get blood frI'm a stone no matter how hard you try to squeeze it. The boy is going to suffer through the surgery and recovery process. The entire family will suffer from a credit score downgrade which puts them in jeopardy for future credit for home loans and credit cards and even future job positions when their credit history is run for "trustworthiness". The HR dept is not going to care why their credit score is the reflection of a medical necessity that was unpaid because they didn't have insurance to cover their son's trauma from a dog attack.

As a good little reminder for pet owners, please be responsible for your pets. If you know you have a dog that is larger and may cause massive damage if it attacks and, especially, if the dog is in heat, please, please take extra precautions to keep your pet tied up, behind a secure fence with a "beware of dog" sign, or inside the home when you are not around to be walking the pet on a leash.
