Safeway, a cellphone, a poodle, the meat section, a dump...
Edited on Wed Aug-10-11 08:51 PM by kentuck
First of all, dogs are not permitted in Safeway stores.

My wife stopped at Safeway this evening to do a little shopping.

There was some middle-aged lady walking her dog, a standard-sized poodle, down the aisles of the store.
She was talking on her cell phone at the same time.

The poodle was one of those well-coiffured types with the fluffy wig and the long hair above its paws.
Then, as the lady talked on her cellphone, the poodle adjusted its stance and delicately squatted right in the meat section and took a dump.

The manager was standing there speechless. My wife kept on walking. I don't know what happened after that but what would you have done if you were that manager?

I thought I had a bad day? :-)

9. Nah.. clean up on aisle three followed in two hours by roasted heiress
in the barbeque pit outside the store. ;)

Standard poodles can be very good dogs--just let their hair grow out and they'll return to being nearly normal. No sense in holding the poor dog responsible.

4. that lady would have been on her hands and knees scrubbing,
disinfecting, scrubbing again or I would have called police to arrest her for trespassing. Of course dogs are not allowed in the grocery store.

My own safeway is very dog friendly and dog owners frequently tie them up in the shaded areas right in front of the store. But, no, of course no one would bring a dog in... Even the little ones that sometimes come in their little carriers in a bike basket--are still left outside to wait. If one were to get lose, (which might happen with a fast moving storm or something else to startle them) and come in looking for his owner, I'm sure they would be understanding and simply escort the dog out and wait for the owner. But, this case seems clearly to be an arrogant arrogant woman, who truly needs to learn a lesson.

5. How did she enter the store? Wasn't there anyone to stop her and her dog?
Or was she a member of the 2% who believe rules about no dogs in stores are for the "little people."

12. Bingo! And the percentage
of those who don't believe rules and laws should apply to them seems to growing. I agree with the previous post -- the woman should have been forced to thoroughly clean up after her little darling, and be banned from the store. If she refused, I'd call the cops. These scofflaws disgust me.

14. Probably seaked the thing in inside her purse or a pocket.
Some dog owners think "Muffy" is just sooooooooo cute that they'll take them everywhere.

Both should have been tossed out, ASAP.

15. You'd need a pretty big purse or pocket to accommodate a standard poodle.

17. Poodles are actually quite cute when they have normal haircuts.
They sort of resemble Airedales. Seeing them with the ridiculous poodle cut just makes me sad.

20. The cut IS stupid looking, but it has origins in a practical application.
See, poodles used to be used as hunting/sporting/retrieving, not show, dogs, and the way they are cut has origins in that task. The cut is so that they can stay as warm as possible around their joints (hips, knees, neck, ankles) and their "core" (chest) yet still stay reasonably lightweight when they're diving into rivers and streams after waterfowl. Thus, the silly looking "pom poms" in foolish looking places!

Unfortunately, if you want to show your dog in a professional dog show, there are only a couple of poodle cuts that are allowed, and yes, they are the goofy looking ones--the "puppy" or "kennel" cuts aren't permitted.

7. What else could he do but...
grab one of those plastic bags for green beans from the produce section, scoop the poo up in it, and hand it to the poodle's mom.

And told her she and her poodle were persona non grata in perpetuity.

11. If the manager does not know how to handle that, he needs a new job
Maybe one cleaning up after that poodle!

If I were in charge of that store, I would have approached the woman (obviously she is no lady or her behavior would have been better), asked to remove the dog from the store. If the woman refused or protested, I would not argue with her. I would simply call the police and have her removed for trespassing. Hopefully I would have a camera so I could take a picture and post it in a prominent location so the employees could easily recognize this individual as one who is no longer permitted to sully the store with her presence, not to mention the dog and it's 'gifts'.

I bet that lady is one of those damned Anerucabs! Now normally I'm far from being a xenophobe, but I knew those people were going to be trouble from the minute they started letting them come here! :grr:
