1. Me, too.
I wish he wouldn't go & it has to be a nightmare for the Secret Service.

I wish them all a safe trip.

7. naw, it is the absolute correct thing for him to do
Edited on Tue Jan-11-11 04:22 AM by Skittles
we cannot let hatred win

And it was right for him not to immediately tear into this matter; the spotlight is now shining on a HUGE problem with political discourse in America - it's an opportunity for Obama to seriously try to unite Americans so he needs to choose his words very carefully

8. I see no reason in the world for Obama to go there.
None. In fact, he will only upset the nutty anti-government people by going there.

There's nothing he can say in Arizona that he can't say in Washington.

11. Obama isn't the issue here. The safety and welfare of the people
in that community is. He has a security detail. They don't.

12. Perhaps it's because it is over the top hyper-paranoid
The President has excellent security that I'm certain will be not only very alert, but beefed up for the trip. There is nothing to worry about.

29. Skittles, whom I luv, doesn't agree with me but I still think
he shouldn't go because Arizona is a petri dish for people like this shooter and it's not only Obama who is put in harm's way when you turn up the heat on these folks. Fine, he has great security and nothing happens. But next week, Ollie shoots up the venue where he spoke and kills the custodian.

It just seems on balance, like a really bad idea.

16. There's protection on top of protection now.
Unless one of his SS guys loses his mind, President Obama will be fine. Of course, nothing is impossible but the President being harmed on such a high profile trip under these circumstances is nearly so.

This tragedy is great enough for Obama to make a personal appearance. All Presidents do this. Even Reagan did it.

this is a similar national event and the president needs to make an appearance.

31. Secret Service is a Top Notch organisation
If it couldn't be done safely they wouldn't allow him to travel there.

Walking up to a relatively unknown Congressperson with a weapon is not the same as getting anywhere near the POTUS with one.

34. Let the nutcases & their guns be fully visible to the public
so that America can look upon them with clear and open eyes. When Mr. TeapartyPatriot parades with his assalt rifle just outside the perimeter of the President's event, you know all the media is going to zero in on this guy. I think the tolerance and permisiveness to the public intimidation by these assholes has run its course.
