Can someone cite an example of an act of violence against a Republican when they controlled
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 11:52 PM by Tony_FLADEM
the government?

The Republicans are trying to spin this as someone who was deranged. I have no doubt this person has mental issues, but I don't think it's coincidence that there are always calls for violence and acts of violence when Democrats are in power.

The Republicans were in power for 6 years. I don't recall any Democratic politicians or leaders calling for 2nd Amendment remedies or similar rhetoric. I don't recall the offices of any Republican politicians being vandalized. Heck, I don't even recall any Republican politicians being threatened.

So regarding this situation, it's their side that is the problem and needs to fix itself.

5. And look at how far back those were.
If the right has to go back more than 30 years to find an example of left-wing violence (and I don't believe those attacks fall into that category), they have lost the debate.

9. The attack on Reagan had nothing to do with politics, other than that he
was the guy in the White House. Hinckley was only intent on mimicking the movie "Taxi Driver" to impress his fantasy girlfriend, Jody Foster.

2. A rabbit attacked Gerald Ford.
So did a woman, I think. And Reagan took a bullet. My that was a long time ago.

6. The rabbit actually went after a Democrat
Jimmy Carter. Unless there was a plague of vicious rabbits in the 70's and one went after Ford, too. If so, I've blanked it out.

13. Yet he was a Republican, from a major GOP fund raiser
It's not a case where the GOP pulled the trigger -- it's an environment of violence.

Whether this was how Hinkley was turned to violence is immaterial. The Republicans had better identify the pattern soon, and act to bank the fires, or there will be some mighty bad times ahead.

The Left had a smaller, but no less obnoxious violence problem off-and-on through the 80s: The Weather Underground, the Manson Family, the Red Army Faction (the so-called Baader-Meinhof Gang), and possibly even Mumia. We've repudiated violence. The Right should do the same.

18. I know there were threats against Bush when he was President
This happens to any President when they are in power. The numbers of threats against Obama has been greater in number than was the case with Bush.

However, I'm referring to violent acts and an overall atmosphere that might cause violence.

I don't recall anyone on the left being violent when the Republicans controlled the government between 2001-2007. And I don't recall any leaders on the left telling their followers to "no retreat but reload."

17. When they controlled the govt, sure. Now if you ask me if I can site
a political assassination attempt made on republicans, from a deranged person listening to hate radio I'd have to say no. Never.
