"Yeah, a buffer. The family had a lot of buffers."
In "Godfather II", that's Willi Cicci, mob "soldier", testifying before a Congressional committee investigating the Corleone family.

He is laughing because his counsel has just defined "buffer", a new word, for him. He had just been asked if the many layers of intermediaries between "button men" like him who actually pull triggers and Vito Corleone, the "Godfather", served as "buffers" to protect the Don.

"Yeah," Willi says, laughing, "a buffer! The family had a lot of buffers!"

So, you see, using the same logic and "ethics", it doesn't matter, according to the GOP apologists now flooding the airwaves with excuses and disclaimers, if Republicans and their shills have spent the past 10 years demonizing Democrats and liberals and anyone who supports "socialist" ideas like universal health care.

It doesn't matter if they repeatedly encouraged their disciples to be "armed and dangerous", to exercise their "Second Amendment remedies" if they lost elections and to "take out" various Democrat-liberal-socialist-AmericaHaters.

It doesn't matter if there is ample evidence that at least some in the corporate party encouraged the use of fear and violence AS A POLITICAL TACTIC.

It doesn't matter that Gabby actually predicted, on videotape, that those who "target" their opponents with gunsights and similar imagery should be aware that such conduct would "have consequences".

If you ain't got proof that Sarah or Michelle or Rush or Glenn actually instructed this deranged young misfit to shoot Gabby Giffords and her supporters, you ain't got shit.

Too many "buffers", don't you know.

Fuhgeddaboudit!
