DU Remember this?

These riots are part of this continuum.

And understanding this does not mean one is in favor of burning things. Alas any of you ever cooked with a pressure cooker? The analogy is proper here

For the record, I hear the law and order element coming strong, but until the underlying conditions are dealt with in positive ways... wait for more, that is all.

2. If that is true, then why after all these years when GWB got egged after
his first theft (2000) (his limousine ride to the WH) have we not seen blowback from that? I don't think Americans will ever riot on the scale of national level or even state level. And what about "Flash Mobs" how do they fit into the equation?

3. We had eight years of pain
it's been over thirty for the brits, we had some easing during the clinton years.

And we have had some riots here...

But the point I am making is that people think this is isolated in the UK... it is not... it happened around the same area where this started.

Also the egging was for different reasons.

I also have the sneaky that unless we have something in the scale of this or the LA Riots, you will not hear it.

20. Yes, but we can include Poppy and Raygun into the mix and
make it 30 years of pain in America. Add in Nixon and Agnew and it is 50 years...I just don't think it will happen here and if does the M$M will hide it or exclude it in reporting. I agree, it is all intertwined and over the years builds up until there is either a paradigm shift by the govt or the working class takes to the streets. I hope we are not at the point of 'bread and circus'. I know you think America has already crossed the Rubicon...but I don't think so, not there yet.

22. As I said we had a reprieve
and it will get here to that point. Methinks Wisconsin is the leading edge... it is just building the way movements build here, organically and from the ground.

43. Yes I agree, Wisconsin seems to be the build up of something
far larger then the state or the nation. Organically from the ground up, exactly what happened in the 60s and 70s. We don't need rioting, we need another social revolution.

7. One of the greatest fallacies I have seen in this place
UNDERSTANDING where things come
means one is in favor of them

Ergo,
One is encouraging them.

I forget what name that fallacy has.

Oh yes, here you go... poisoning the well...

Damn I knew that Logic class in HS would come handy some day.

10. For those of us "in this place" who lack that understanding, I'm sure there
are one or two posters who will explain things to us, ad infinitum.

I understand 'fallacy' to mean a false notion. How is a lack of understanding a false notion? If what you say is true, would not that be more of a failing rather than a fallacy?

11. you had a thread on why the americans dont riot and then postured all kinds of reasons....
that were insults to americans.

so IF one may feel that you think it is a good idea to have the same here in the u.s., that is where it is coming from. firstly

and secondly.... how YOU understand things to be can differ from how OTHERS understand things to be. so because you see it as an oppressive reason for the behavior, some of us with people we know that would be in the middle of the looting spree understand the other reason for this behavior.

and because a person does not agree with you does to mean you need to take it so personally, lacking that very logic you rave about.

13. What lack of class consciouenss is a reality
sorry, live with it.

It is starting to form, but that is a reality going back oh a hundred years or more. It is a puzzle of the US... and there have been many explanations over the decades. I just offered my working hypothesis of why... which actually is not that far from Emma Goodman's. She just didn't have TV at the time.

And you engaged in poisoning the well, I get it why people are rioting, that does not translate into I encourage it.
