New State Law Issued For Splash Parks
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A city official said on Monday that a new state law requiring the testing of water at splash parks will prompt the use of more chlorine, since the water at splash parks is not contained like it is at swimming pools.
Three years ago, an outbreak of 228 cases of crypto closed some pools. It is spread through fecal matter, and may be found in any recreational water source, 10TV News reported.
Since splash park mandatory testing began this summer, the fountains at the new Scioto Mile park have been closed three times after fecal matter was found.
Chlorine kills the parasite, but Columbus Environmental Health coordinator Patrick McGrath said splash parks may need to use more of it to keep the water safe.
