In the grand scheme of things, death is the only enemy
Every other enemy is contrived, made up or some caricature that clouds logic

Homo Sapien's only enemy is death

Just had to get that off my chest

-------------------------------------------

P.S. I understand death is a relief for those suffering and in great pain. I understand. That is 100% correct.

However, if you could cure them of said malady, and stop their suffering, wouldn't you be for it?

Death is only a consolation prize in that regard - life without pain would be the real goal

1. if you view death as an enemy you're going to be afraid all the time
because it's inevitable, people have been doing it for hundreds of thousands of years.

the only real enemy in my opinion is fear, and its pathetic minions. joy is possible. peace is possible.

4. Nope - I will live my life fighting death
If I had it to do over again, I would have become a doctor, but you try telling 16-year-old me that!

So I work in technology, where despite any downsides, the upside is you will be helping the human race live longer

2. So if someone is torturing me, death is the enemy, not that person?
Then why do people beg: please just kill me? There are enemies. I think the biggest one is systemic greed.

3. As to being tortured, both he and death are your enemy for that time
And probably for a long while after too

But remember I said in the grand scheme of things - things change - the world changes

And so in the end, death is the only enemy

7. That's not really true
At least not death in general. Something else has to die for more of us to live longer. We like that kind of death.

It is funny though how we complain about corporations essentially being immortal. They privatize the profits and socialize the costs! That's just greed. Can't have that! We must regulate corporations.

Who regulates homo sapiens? Nature/the planet/the environment/whatever you want to call it. Death is a regulation. Apparently that regulation is the enemy. We want to write the rules that govern us, the rules that regulate us. I guess all those corporations are onto something.

8. I agree with you about corporations
But not about humans - live life - the alternative is nothing

9. Live life, not control it
Which is really what it's about. Increasing control over life.

Humans make up corporations. I don't know that you get to separate the two. It's the only reason corporations might be said to be essentially immortal. Our species, along with all the rest, are basically corporations to the planet's government. The planet regulates species, government regulates corporations. Our species is an Exxon, Wal-Mart, Monsanto, etc. Mass society is like a merged corporate monopoly. And we very much like to privatize the profits of the planet for our single species, and socialize the costs.

16. I don't get your meaning
As for any technology, ethical considerations have to be taken into account. And I understand that this could easily overpopulate the planet, and our planet hasn't responded too well to overpopulation. However with an ethical and fair minded approach, this technology could be beneficial to everyone, including the planet.

Imagine if Einstein could have lived to see string theory?

Imagine if Tesla could have lived to see the internet?

Of course, this begs the question, what if Adolf Hitler could live to implement his evil?

Thing is, this technology will come - its not a matter of if, but when.

One of the great discoveries from the human genome mapping is discovery into why we age, and how cells die. Right now, scientists are working on ways to reverse this process.

When it comes, the human race will have to deal with it ethically, or face extinction.

11. Death isn't always the enemy. Murder is for sure. But death is
as natural as could be.

14. Control births, yes
So that there aren't too many people on the planet

I see where you're going, but one of my mottos is to become the gods that man once worshiped.
