Nation Watches As Wisconsin Prepares For Recalls Tuesday - WisconsinStateJournal
Nation watches as Wisconsin prepares for recalls Tuesday

<snip>

The money pouring into this summer's recall elections already has shattered campaign spending records across Wisconsin. And with six Republican senators fighting for their seats on Tuesday, then two Democratic senators facing recall next week, high stakes and intense national interest in the historic recalls mean spending totals will only continue to rise.

Cash flowing into the recall elections from third-party interest groups already has approached $30 million, election watchdogs say, and total spending by third-party groups and candidates could top $40 million.

<And...>

The recalls could drastically change the political landscape in Wisconsin. Gov. Scott Walker and Republican lawmakers, who won control of the governor's office, Senate and Assembly in November, have been able to pass a broad slate of conservative legislation since they took power in January. Losing control of the Senate to Democrats would mean a sudden roadblock for Walker's agenda.

"Rarely in American politics do you have a chance for a do-over," UW-Madison political science professor Charles Franklin said. "This is as close to a do-over as you are going to get."

2. Do us proud, Wisconsin!
I have every confidence that you have awoken and will do the right thing this time around. I hope the rest of the nation watches closely and follows suit when it's their time to vote the repugs out of office.

3. Keeping fingers crossed. Were the State Fair beatings just a little too convenient?
I mean, black kids beating whites at the State Fair just days before the recall? Maybe it's just a tragic and insane coincidence, but does anyone here believe the Kochs aren't up to a payout for such a thing, after what we saw with their absentee ballot shenanigans?

9. I hope everyone realizes just how critical this election is.
I believe this is a defining moment in history not only for Wi. but for many other states across the nation. If we fail to get enough Dems elected to stall the Walker agenda, it will further encourage other states to step up efforts to enact similar agendas and lessen their fear of the voters. It will also make a recall of Walker in 2012 much more difficult if not impossible. A victory here could just inspire citizens all across the country to realize that maybe, just maybe, that people working together can make things change for the better. We have been working hard in the 10th to elect Moore and it has been uphill against the wind all the way, but we do have a chance if every Dem gets out to vote.
