1. Winning in politics...is serving the greater good
and serving the needs of the people...even if they are not campaign contributors, or even if they didn't vote for that candidate.

9. Agreed, and I'd define "greater good" as helping the people
who need it most.

10. Not only is that the RIGHT thing to do...it is also in the Bible.
Not that these Christianists would pay attention to anything like that...

5. From up close in the room personal experience
negotiating and getting anything between the best possible and preventing the worst. For example:
Advocates negotiated medicaid with republicans. Coming from a point where the deal on the table was to take away a variety of services from medicaid, attendant care, dental care, etc.... We wanted to kill the bill or at least make it less painful. Sadly the bill passed and people died as a result. When changes were negotiated, we gave in on some previous "demands." ie Dental care, podiatry, poverty level, and a lot of other things. But, attendant services and others (for example medical equipment and oxygen provided outside of a medical provider) made it back in. Meanwhile, more than one person with diabetes went downhill and died because they lost podiatry care.

There is no such thing as "winning" in politics. Elections, maybe but not in practice.
