Tucson Citizen News asks, " Will Jesse Kelly Replace Giffords"?
http://tucsoncitizen.com/in-the-aggregate/2011/01/10/will-jesse-kelly-replace-giffords/

While US Senators can have vacancies filled by Governors, such is not the case for US Representatives.

A special election must be held.

Jesse Kelly was already considering another run in two years against Giffords, a race that came down to less than two points difference in the end.

Giffords will have a lot of healing to do and it will most likely be the case that a special election will be called.

Who has a year long head start on a campaign? Who is already planning for the next campaign?
------------

Sick opportunistic fucks!

1. No, a special election must only be held if she dies or resigns... She is still alive.

2. If they have any honor or decency they will stand down and not run a candidate
Giffords is the congresswoman. If she should not be able to serve her replacement should only be somebody who is committed to her legacy and positions on the issues.

7. I don't agree with that at all.
If there is an election, anyone should be able to run. It's up for the people in d-8 to decide who represents them. They should have a choice.

12. I am aware that anybody is allowed to run. I am asking them nicely not to do so
Like they said during the Ground Zero mosque debate: "they may have the right to do it, but that doesn't make it right to do".

14. They made their choice.
Their elected representative is in the hospital, recovering from a bullet wound, as you know.

8. No. Replacements have to be by special election
This is from Article one, Section 2 of the Constitution
When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.
There will have to be a special election.

There are not going to be any close votes for a while and so Rep. Giffords should be allowed sufficient time to recover. Senator Biden took a leave of absence when he had a health issue and was able to come back when he had recovered

4. When one new congressman a couple of years ago had
an aneurysm burst in his brain, he held the office until he was healed and could go back to work.

16. Tim Johnson (D), from SD ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Johnson_(U.S._Senator)#Health

Yes, he was out for several months following a brain hemmorhage. I think Giffords will make the decision herself as to whether or not to continue. Interesting to note that Johnson began working from his hospital bed, and even sponsored legislation before being discharged. There's no reason to rush a replacement for Giffords, either.

13. His wife is. How long does it take to establish residency?
Clinton was on the ballot in NY... to which she had absolutely NO connection... quicker than a cat could wink its eye, Billy Boy.

9. No you idiots because I have a feeling Gabby will be walking
back in to Congress sometime this year.

Sounds like she may have retained the capacity to serve. I sincerely hope so.

I'd like the Repukes to have to see her everyday and be reminded what their hateful rhetoric reaps.

I suspect!), there WILL BE NO REPLACEMENT.
