It's a great post!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1671141

But i have a question ... will writing on it make it unusable for vending machines? How do the scanners in those machines work, and does the ink from a marker pen mess up the authentication of the bill?

As you can see, i'm thinking about it carefully. ;)

Here's the brilliant photo he posted.

and a $2.00 coin, and I'm waiting for a $5.00 coin. Japan, Britain, and a host of other countries do so, too. In fact all EU countries have one and two euro coins.

It's cheaper than printing bills, since they last longer in circulation.

5. Point taken
but it'd take more than common sense and economic savings to convince Americans to give up their foldin' money: 'I'll give you my paper money when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!'

6. Aye, I have one of those somewhere.........
A friend sent it to me. However, that didn't gain widespread acceptance, for some reason. Maybe because you guys were given a choice? We just took $1.00 bills out of circulation, which is not to say that they aren't still legal tender.

7. A dime now is about the value of a penny in 1960.
No reason to mint pennies and nickels.
