The conversations with my Tea Party neighbor, Right Wing mom and Christian extremist brother always seem to slow down and get complicated when I ask them to be more specific with spending cuts and how big of a waste the Stimulus was. I remind my brother, a truck driver, of his work the last 18 months carrying asphalt, gravel and sign posts to hoist those big orange signs describing the "Federal Governments Work" to rebuild the four bridges on I-285. His paycheck is coming indirectly from that money. My mom is on medicare and takes Zocor, an ARB for blood pressure and an antidepressant - all covered by medicare if she gets the generic - stop spending on that? And then we talk about war, Afghanistan and the close to 60% of all spending spent on the "War on Terror". Cut that?

We are increasing spending in many cases by default - its written into law.
We can start with defense.
