Obama will be blamed for this. Watch. Let me be the first to say that HE SHOULDN'T BE, and that is a big digression from my feelings of late, but he gave them "98% of what they wanted". So it'll be his fault because of "the buck stops here" meme or it'll be his fault for GIVING THEM 98% of what they wanted to begin with, but one way or another, he will be holding this bag.

Maybe NOW he'll stop trying to "build a consensus" with people who's QUOTED SOLE INTENT is to get him out of office.

When the fuck will he wake up and fight?

1. My gut feeling is- never. But one thing I do know - fear the wrath of the patient man.
If they ever DO wake him from his slumbering dreams of bipartisanship that is.

3. He walked into a mess, but instead of pointing the finger at the ones that made the mess...
He was playing 'nice.'

I sure hope now I don't get blamed for Obama playing nice with the Repukes.

11. You're exactly right.
And at some point, we are going to have to recognize that GETTING ROLLED LIKE A CHUMP isn't the same thing as "compromising".

It's not.

13. Want to know what drives me crazy? That I STILL don't know why he did that!
Clinton did a similar thing. He was also rather nice to the Repukes, even while they were crucifying him, AND I DON'T KNOW WHY HE WAS NICE.

Someone please explain!

I'm NEVER nice to people who treat me like shit.

4. WHO Is going to blame him? The corp media?
My observation is that people are fed up, and they're not blaming Obama, in spite of what the pretty people on teevee tell us.

7. He Deserves To Be
The downgrade is a huge embarrassment for President Obama. Speaker Boehner and and the Tea Party nut jobs accomplished their goal. They got huge concessions on spending cuts, with no consideration of new revenue sources, they averted an actual default (which may have led to the men and women of our military not being paid) and they dragged out the negotiations long enough for our nation's credit to be downgraded - a humiliation they can blame on Obama through next year's election. Meanwhile, the downgrade will make borrowing more expensive, requiring ever more cuts to spending, which will worsen the economy and further hurt Americans. This is another winning campaign issue for Republicans next year. Oh, and in making those spending cuts, Obama has ticked off his base who won't be energized to help re-elect him.
Well played, Republicans.

President Obama deserves some of the blame, too. He made a politically disastrous mistake - he trusted the wrong people. He continued the Bush bailouts without demanding real Wall Street reform. When the Republicans wanted to continue the Bush tax cuts, he didn't insist on tying a debt ceiling increase to it. He trusted the Republicans. Had he been true to his base, they would have been there for him in 2010 and for 2012. Instead, he ignored his base to suck up to Wall Street and play nice with the Republicans. See what that got him?

Unfortunately, I think it's too late for him.

8. Agree - add in the weakened stimulus.
Everything the President has done has been significantly influenced by the right.
At every turn the right has attempted to influence the action enough for the action to fail, and they have succeeded in failing. The dismal irony of all this is the President IS left holding the bag.
No one will remember that the right is void of any constructive ideas come 2012. The only image that will play is Obama being the only President to suffer the downgrade and fail to revive the economy.
I have long maintained that the President was in an impossible situation from the start. Now, he's really backed in a corner.

9. He is wide awake
And he knows what Wall Street wants -- a lower rating on U.S. debt so they can make more money trading the higher volatility and wider bid/ask spread.

10. He gave them 98% of what they wanted? Nonsense.
The wanted to default, and they wanted to cut / gut / dismantle Social Security.

Neither happened.

Meanwhile, the S&P was pretty clear in why it down graded our debt. They down graded out debt because it has become abundantly clear that the GOP is totally unwilling to include revenues in any effort to reduce the debt. And with out revenues, the debt can't come down. Period.

Now, we can either (a) bitch and moan about how awful Obama is, or (2) go after the GOP for trying to destroy the country and its economy.

If the media tries to blame Obama for this, what will you do ... blame him, or write your favorite media members and demand that they tell the truth.

12. What planet are you on? And can *I* have some of whatever you're smoking?
Instead of default, they got "downgraded" and they DID INDEED succeed at gutting social security, super congress notwithstanding.

14. Oh brother ...
You clearly don't know what a default would have meant versus the down grade ... and there have been no cuts to social security, none, nadda, zip.

You need to check your meds or cut down on the red bull.

16. The Truth?
The truth would be that President Obama still deserves blame, but not for the reasons the corporate controlled media and Republicans would have everyone believe.
