"The Fourth Turning". Thom Hartmann was talking about this book last week.
Two researchers looked all the way back to the mid-15th century, to The War of the Roses. They discovered a cultural, social, and I guess economic cycle of 80-100 years, a saeculum or lifetime, in which roughly every 20-25 years, there is a turning or upsetting of one generation's values in favor of the next. The cycles can also affect economics. The four cycles are The High, The Awakening, The Unraveling, and The Crises. Here is the website:

I posted this information in this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1658936, and the OP suggested I start a new thread. I haven't read the book yet, but it looks pretty interesting. Have at it!
