These last few weeks have really been a wake-up call for me, a call that drove home to me ...
Edited on Thu Aug-04-11 07:43 PM by WCGreen
just how fragile, how on the edge my life has become…

Let’s face it; no one ever really wants to come to grips with just how vulnerable they truly are. For me, it was a combination of recent events that made it crystal clear that my life is rapidly slipping out of my control.

About a month ago, as I outlined in the last couple of updates to the blog, the AC crapped out during a monumental heat and humidity wave. I was pushed up against the wall health-wise as I was literally gasping for air even when I had the O2 concentrator cranked up over 4 liters per minute.

I was left in the position of taking muscle relaxers and sleeping pills in the morning in order to try and get through the worst part of the day asleep. At that point, it became obvious that it was better to try and get through my daily tasks in the cool, a relative measure to be sure, of the night than try to wade through the thick, soupy air of the day.

The latest post on my lung Transplant Blog.

It's a long one but really has a lot to do with health care and the political nonsense going on in DC...

1. I am so sorry.
The never ending heat has gotten many of us down. Almost like we have been taken prisoner,

Your circumstances are unusually, difficult, to say the least. I keep longing for for the crispness of an October evening, if such a thing still exists.

Please take care.

4. As someone with a chronic health condition,
i feel furious at the idiots who are messing with your life, and deep empathy for what you're going through. Being sick is horrible.
My thoughts are with you ...

11. You know then of what I speak...
A chronic disease eats away at more than your well being. It eats away at your sense of self and it is really hard to keep a positive attitude all the time...

I'm not really complaining I just want people to know how hard it is to deal with day after day after day with no end in sight.

I'm very lucky that I seem to be wired with a mostly upbeat disposition.

The thing is there are so many people who are dealing with a chronic condition that is not obvious. And that could be why some people we meet are in bad moods.

In that sense, I now have more empathy for my fellow man.

That was done last year and earlier this spring.

He put in a new one and it is working just fine.

Somehow, I think all of us are coming to grips with our future going forward...and making revisions to plans with how we deal with "stuff" going forward. There's not going to be much help politically ...and we do what we can to still be heard.

I'm so glad you started a blog. We need to keep communicating...and communicating ...to be heard ABOVE the NOISE!

16. Oh, no. I am sending good thoughts and vibes your way. Will you be able to get your a/c fixed?
Do you have $$$ for fixing your a/c? (If there's anyone available to fix it; I imagine the repairmen are working 24/7 right now.)

One thing you might consider in the future, when things get better (and I hope they do)...I have a small window a/c I bought at Sears years ago. It's a backup for IF my central a/c breaks down. It's very hot here in Dallas, and having had to spend a night or two w/o a/c in the past, I got the backup a/c. It won't help if my power goes out altogether, which happens a lot in my area. But if my a/c clunks out, at least I'll have one room that is somewhat cool. (It's pretty small and won't cool any more than my tiny bedroom.)

Something to think about. The window a/c's will go on sale at the end of the season. Lowe's & Home Depot has good prices, too.

18. We got it all done. We found someone we could trust....
We have to think about getting a back up. I think we will be hitting the yard sales after the end of summer to see about picking up window unit...

19. Oh, I'm so glad to hear it. We've had several people here die from the heat.
It hit 110 degrees today. I've never experienced this kind of heat before. It's literally like an oven outside.

And with your health condition, it makes it even more dangerous.

I hope you are able to get a lung transplant. I'm unfamiliar with your prior posts. Life isn't fair, sometimes. I am sending good thoughts your way on your serious health condition.

17. I've bookmarked your blog -
you write really well. I am middle-aged with arthritis, but thankfully my medicine works well most of the time. I know how fragile it can be though, one of my husband's colleagues lost his middle-aged wife a couple years ago (she had severe rheumatoid arthritis). She came down with an infection and just couldn't fight it (the drugs we take to control the pain and inflammation can cause this to happen). So, I'm always aware that while I'm ok now it could change rapidly. Take care.

20. Thank you...
I try to explain what I am going through because I know a lot of people have medical challenges and that when you get down to it, a medical condition is a medical condition.
