Turbulence Over (For Now)

Deal done.

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) in a statement just now, announcing agreement to end the current impasse that's left thousands of FAA employees furloughed:

"I am pleased to announce that we have been able to broker a bipartisan compromise between the House and the Senate to put 74,000 transportation and construction workers back to work. This agreement does not resolve the important differences that still remain.

7. According to the loons at the firedog lake, it goes this way.
First Obama caved. Reid looked Obama, then caved. Pelosi looked at Reid, then caved. House republicans saw the democratic (aka, third way) caving wave and naturally, caved. All the while Saint Dennis looked for an olive wrap that would not hurt his mouth.

4. Tweety mentioned an agreement
Guess that construction worker on the morning show saying he'll have to cancel his two year old's birthday party (while his reps were on vacation) was very effective.

11. I would not be surprised to see a similar crisis next week.
The obvious response to delay and obstruction is to take away the perks of the job, month-long paid vacations in August being one of them. It's even easier to compel Senators to return because, thanks to the Republicans in the House who wish to prevent the President from making recess appointments, Congress as a whole is not recessed.

There is a trick that can be played at these times, a really, really dirty trick which I've decided not to describe, which is based in part upon the fact that in the U.S., ignorance prefers geographical remoteness, and the Republican Party.

I hope we see it.

12. Good news if true
Better news if this wrangling has been resolved, rather than just put off for six weeks.

I wonder if it will be reported that Republicans did not hesitate to waste millions of your tax dollars on this union-busting foray?
