8. Right up there with Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann.
Unless you're a Koch brother or other Machiavellian billionaire, you have to be pretty dumb to be a Republican.

11. They all sound dumb.
Their grasp of pretty much every issue is about as shallow as what an 8 year old might understand.
They are a party of morons.

Bill Maher's show the other night was the perfect example. The GOP bimbo kept saying "Obama has doubled the deficit". Elliot Spitzer tried to explain that the deficit doubled due to the Bush tax cuts , the two unfunded wars, and the crash of 2008, all stemming from the implementation of Bush era policies. Her answer was: "Obama doubled the deficit."

12. He's dumb and ruthless
and people who are ruthless will generally defeat smart people who play by the rules. All we can do if we want a sane society is give the rules enough teeth that anyone who breaks them will face severe consequences.

13. That's the problem
the only way to control the dumb and ruthless is by laws. But in America, the laws have no teeth (we are talking about white collar crime). What they do is eject the obvious scapegoat--eg they threw Bernie Madoff to the wolves because he offended their honor code--which is, "don't get caught," and if you get caught, get out of it." So once in a while they sacrifice blood to make everybody think the system is working.

If you are smart and play by the rules, you WILL be run over in this society, if you are not an insider with friends in high places.

So I think there can be severe penalties on the books, but without ethics in government and the judicial system, those laws will not be effective.

It is a failure of ethics rather than laws, as I see it. Enforcement is half the battle.
