"Repeal The Internet Tax" he said...
In front of Walmart. People flocking to sign. All about the tax on online sellers here in CA.

Black guy too.

Watched him for about half an hour and listened to his spiel.

Then i told him the news he needed to know.
1. WALMART IS FOR THE TAX.
2. this will FUCK over you friends. the ones in jail, the ones receiving any type of public assistance, your kid's education etc.

"But nobody likes to be taxed" he replied. Someone in the line echoed that sentiment.

It was like he had no idea that taxes pay for stuff. And if this is repealed then brick and mortar sellers, who are now paying taxes on online sales, will be able to sell online without taxes. (Technically they can now if sale is made out of state but don't).

Less revenue, less stuff the state provides. The less good roads the less parks that are open etc....

1. I don't go on the internet to avoid state taxes. However, I also
ignore the line on my state tax form asking me to pony up sales tax on everything i bought on line. I really have no idea how much tax I would owe, and am afraid is I out down, say $100, the state will come back and demand $1000. I prefer to let that sleeping dog lie.

3. I have stopped engaging these people
but the last one I did... I asked him NOT to use the freeway, NOT to call 911, and not to drive on ANY public street.

He had that look of deer in headlight look.

Honey, that is what those terrible taxes pay for.

4. SALES TAXES SHOULD BE ABOLISHED, as they are very regressive and hurt the poor the most..
This whole issue of "taxing online sales" is a red herring -- if states like Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon can get away with not having a sales tax on even their brick-and-mortar stores, other states can do it too.

Just raise the state income and property taxes a little bit, and make the rich (who own big estates and lots of land) pay for their fair share of state government instead.

High sales taxes hurt businesses as well, as people tend to not spend as much since there's all the added burden whenever you make a purchase.

5. I admit, although the main reasonI buy a lot onine is convenience,,
i also take into account that i don't owe the tax either. i'm in a wheelchair, and its a PIA to go to the stores to shop. i buy a lot from Amazon (who's the center of this Ca. argument) because I don't ave to go to the store, the delivery is FAST, they have good prices, and there's no state tax. That's 7.5% i don't have to pay I would still buy from Amazon if I had to pay the State Tax, but it's nice not to hav to do it.

Years ago I was the Property Manager for a large multi store retailer. I got to know quite a bit about the taxes that were owed and which ones were actually paid. If you buy something from another State and the seller does not maintain a store in YOUR State, you don't owe sales tax, but you SO OWE Use tax. Now, I will admit, the co. never paid it that I know of and I had that job for several years, and was with the same co. for another13 years and I know they never paid use tx in that time.

I can understand why the States want to enforce every retaier to charge Sales TAx. They're all huring for money just to keep afloat. If and when the unemployment #'s go down and many more people get jobs & begin paying taxes again, all this hoopla will die down. The real problem is still JOBS!

7. Oh, you wouldn't like what I've been doing.
I buy on the Internet and don't pay sales tax.

Even worse, I buy "international editions" of some fairly expensive books. The kind that say, "Illegal for sale in the United States or Canada." Intended for poor students in India or Kenya. One that should arrive in a couple of days was $30 instead of $140. Yeah, they're softbound. Eh. Need the book, can't afford the $140 sticker price (even without the 8.25% tax).

That, apparently, is bad. Buying prescription drugs from Canada, on the other hand ...
