Aviation Safety is At Risk With FAA Shutdown

I just called each US Senator and Congressperson and told them to get on the next flight back to Washington DC mainly because aviation safety is being compromised.

Currently FAA maintenance inspectors are amongst those being furloughed this means aircraft are not being spot inspected on a regular basis so in essence mechanics could be putting out a sub par product without oversight.

So call your Representative today.

1. Not according to the FAA. Do you have a link about the maintenance inspectors being furloughed?

This is what I found.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/03/us/03faa.html

Dozens of airport inspectors have been asked by the F.A.A. to work without pay and to charge their government travel expenses to their personal credit cards to keep airports operating safely.

Air traffic controllers and airplane inspectors, who are paid with separate accounts, have continued to work, but workers who oversee research on aviation systems, grants for airports and facilities and operations equipment have been furloughed.

SNIP

“No safety issues will be compromised,” Mr. LaHood told reporters on a conference call. “Flying is safe. Air traffic controllers are guiding airplanes. Safety inspectors are on duty and are doing their job. No one needs to worry about safety.”

3. the pukes are such creeps
If the stalemate continues through Labor Day, the government could lose roughly $1 billion in tax revenues on airline ticket sales.

We don't need no stinking revenues...let's just cut some more stuff.

5. Absolutely untrue.
There are no safety issues involved here. No maintenance inspectors have been furloughed. The people that have been laid off are airport construction workers.

6. Not really
ATC, Safety inspectors are all still on the job. Dev and construction programs are what have been furloughed,

It still sucks, it should have been fixed, but to falsely play the air safety card is BS
