In my last article, I made the point that the GOP will pull this hostage-taking crap again
...because it worked.

Well...

"In the future, any president, this one or another one, when they request us to raise the debt ceiling, it will not be clean anymore. This is just the first step."

- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), in an interview with Larry Kudlow, suggesting fights over the debt ceiling are the new normal.

...but no, this deal wasn't a fucking disaster.

Not at all.

3. McConnell forgot to add the words "...any DEMOCRATIC president"
Do you really believe the Repubs will complain when an REPUBLICAN president is raising the debt ceiling?

31. Ed Schultz had one on his program that also paralled the decline of unions in the US
The graph showed that both numbers were on a downhill decline.
The middle class has had its living standard lowered in the last 10 years due to the fact that their wages didn't go up at all during the last decade.
While the cost of gasoline doubled, and in some cases went up more than that for awhile, the middle class actually lost much of its discretionary spending power since Bush was the prez.

that anyway, not "because it worked."

They've been doing it to everything that Obama suggests. And they would do it again even if Obama let the country go into default. Hell, they were doing it before Obama.

It's a cheap argument you're making here. I respect your opinion even if I disagree with it, but this one is a little cheap. It's akin to piling on.

As far as predicting it would happen again, hell, that one was easy and doesn't require any special skills or insight.

18. I beg to differ..... Obama made it too easy.
It worked because Obama (and too many centrist Democrats) gave it all to them from the start.

The only opposition the GOP leaders faced was trying to keep their Tea Party troops under control enough to avoid really tanking the economy at the end.

Otherwise it was smooth sailing, with Obama providing much of their hot air with his own nonsense about "bipartisanship" and "compromise" -- both of which are worthy ideals, but not the way to compete with the GOP machine at this point.

One person listens.

Say it over and over and over and over...

...and maybe the message gets through.

"It's a cheap argument you're making here."

Indeed.

I hope your job is easier than mine, for your sake.

My job sucks.

14. Oh but our leaders are so clever!
They put in a poison pill - defense cuts - so that the terrorist hostage takes will have to negotiate in good faith. What could possibly go wrong with that stratergery?

meanwhile wall street is voting "Double Dip".

15. That's a door that can swing both ways if the Dem's have the balls to go there.
The next time the GOP is in charge and they need to raise the debt ceiling the Democrats can demand a tax increase.

(Yeah I know like that'll happen.) :banghead:

21. If the Republicans were holding a tank of gasoline Obama would offer up matches for bipartisanship.
why do you think they'd ever stop the destruction?

They wont.

Now answer this - if they are hellbent on economic ruin, why is Obama hellbent on meeting them halfway?

He's just not conservative enough!!

I saw an interview with Orrin Hatch and that wretch, Greta Van Suckstern on Faux Snooze the other day, and he said he was Tea Party before being Tea Party was cool.
I thought I was going to puke on my shoes.

They just can't run to the right fast enough these days!!
