The UK's largest ever seizure of a Class A drug has been made from a luxury yacht in Southampton, the UK Border Agency has said.

Officials found 1.2 tonnes of cocaine with a street value of up to £300m in the £1m yacht two months ago.

The 90% pure drugs were so well hidden in the 65ft pleasure cruiser, the Louise, it took six days to find them.

A 60-year-old, who owns the boat, was arrested in Meppel. His three sons, aged 27, 32 and 34, are also being held following police raids in Waalwijk and Heusden.

Two 44-year-old men were also arrested in Amsterdam.

A total of 100,000 euros (£87,300), two Harley Davidson motorcycles, two firearms, a silencer and a quantity of ecstasy were also seized.

UK police seize record £300mn cocaine haul

Police have seized Britain's largest ever cocaine haul, worth up to £300 million, from a luxury yacht which had sailed from the Caribbean, officials said Wednesday.

The 1.2-tonne stash was found hidden under the bathing deck of the pleasure cruiser docked in the port of Southampton in southeast England, Britain's Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and UK Border Agency (UKBA) said.

Police believe the drugs were loaded onto the boat in Venezuela. ..... Authorities were alerted to suspicions over the yacht, named Louise, while it was in the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean in May.

.....

The drugs, estimated to be worth £50 million wholesale but with a street value of up to £300 million, were found in a specially designed compartment after a six-day search of the 20-metre cruiser.
