Had the President exercised the 14th Amendment option, would that decision have withstood challenge in front of the Roberts court?

2. It's hypothetical,
based on a number of comments, here and elsewhere, to the effect that such action wouldn't be legal, that it would be fought tooth and nail, in a couple of diatribes "all the way to the supreme court if necessary".

Point is, I do not know what the process would be, which is why I asked.
