14. 108 in Kansas City, MO - without the heat index.
Businesses should make great efforts to set up employees to work from home in these weather extremes.

We are not using the oven to cook, nor drying any laundry until very late at night. Even the faucet water is warm!!! No cold showeres... UGGGGG.

I hope you stay cool and safe! This weather can KILL.

5. 112 here officially right now
Hotter in the city with the heat island effect.

Forecast here is for:
114, 108, 106, 104, 105, 103.

Nightime lows are running in the mid 80s.

All of the state is in a drought and much of the state is in extreme drought.

We are on track to set the record for the hottest summer ever recorded here in Oklahoma.

13. Extreme heat and the elderly , poor and/or chronically ill
Edited on Tue Aug-02-11 05:13 PM by Divernan
A lethal combination.

Another excellent reason for the monied elite/US ruling class to deny the reality of global warming/weather extremes and thwart efforts to address the issue by lessening dependence on nuclear, oil and gas energy sources. The weather extremes kill off the elderly & the poor (can't afford air conditioning in summer or adequate heat in the winter) and the chronically ill - so there are less people to claim social security, medicaid or medicare.
At the same time, the weather extremes drive up the demand for power to heat and cool human habitats, so keep the profits high for the more polluting power sources and their shareholders. And the wealthy are quite comfortable in their gated enclaves.

These are the best of times (for wealthy)and these are the worst of times (for the rest of us).

If Charles Dickens were alive today, he would be writing day and night to document the greed, cruelty, corruption, avarice and overall human suffering of today's world. I've just finished reading two recent novels by best selling authors: A Most Wanted Man, by John LeCarre and The Troubled Man by Henning Mankell.

They both had very noirish & depressing endings, and both were very critical of U.S. and its war-mongering foreign policy.

But not too much. Everything's nice and green and in a couple months it will be red, yellow, orange, rust and green. But I can wait for that!

28. I only have to actually pay about $2000 per year in taxes and I have
7 acres and a large house with 6 bedrooms and 3 full baths. Bet no one else can beat that. However, I live on a fixed income and the state takes that into consideration. Other states wouldn't give a damn. I even got my house weatherized and insulated because our state used it's stimulus money to help Vermonters save energy. I wouldn't live anywhere else!

Just remember all New England doesn't have such low taxes and benefits. I think VT's are the best...not that I'm prejudice. Check thoroughly before you move and check out who their representatives are.

35. Don't believe everything you hear.
I moved from Mass to Texas in 2004 (for work) and state and local taxes, added up, were a wash. This or that particular tax was higher or lower or nonexistent in one or the other place, but taken altogether, it was very, very close.

I just moved back this week. Finally. Glad to be missing out on that weather, I have to say.

33. It's hell on earth
I live in KS and it's 114 here. The local news clarified that it's 114 in the shade and 121 in the sun. Tomorrow a 'cold front' is moving through and it will 'only' be 98. You know you live in the lowest rung of hell when they quote those kind of numbers.

Global warming anyone??
